The Queensland wildlife park has dismissed up to 30 staff, with some claiming the zoo is on the brink of collapse. Former curator Bruce Murdock told New Idea, the Crocodile Hunter's dream was in tatters. Many blamed the zoo's woes on management

I am very sorry to hear of the zoo's problems. They have done some in situ conservation efforts that now might collapse. Of course, I am most worried about the animals in there because there might not be any other places for them to go.

yrna, thx my friend, albeit sad news.

steve & his zoo were such great educational tools for children & adults like & children are where we need to start with in educating them, & that's what steve & the zoo did so well - such a shame it may come to this fate....

This is heartbreaking. It isn't surprising, but it is heartbreaking. They grew way too fast when Steve became famous, and they lost his vision when they lost him. He was a force to be reckoned with!

Poor Bindy. She had such dreams to continue her daddy's work after his horrible death. I wish only good things for the Irwin family, and hope somehow, they can find a way to continue his life's work either through new management or in another form. God bless the Irwin family and their legacy!!!

I hope news of this zoo closing is just rumors. Steve had a wonderful dream and we owe it to Steve and to this planet to keep that dream alive!

Thanks, Yrna, this really is a sad state of affairs... Steve had such big dreams, but all that seemed to crumble after his death.

I truly hope that the zoo can have a turnaround. Steve Irwin and his family put so much into this to educate the public. I'm also concerned as to where all these animals would go if this were to be shut down. Hopefully someone will step in and manage it correctly.

i'm shocked. bindi is so marketable. doesn't she have a show? she ought to. and i'm sure bob will have alot of steve in him too. i know they can make it work with proper management. most zoos don't have nearly the amount of publicity they have.

This would be an absolute catastrophe if the zoo were forced to close their doors !! Every possible avenue must be explored to keep this zoo going - it MUST not be allowed to close !

Are there no rich people in Australia?

The zoo administration sound tired and inept. Get someone new to run it, get a well-known advertising agency involved! Get up from you lazy behindand put some steam into this project: Can't and not possible are words only acceptable if your dead!

I respected Steve Irwin & family very much for his huge love and commitment with animals, but Im not a zoo advocant, on the contrary I´ve always said that zoos are neither good nor friendly for animals and actually all of them should be shut down.
