" Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn accepted up to £20,000 (about $27,000) for appearances on the Iranian state broadcast network Press TV — a channel that was banned in the UK for its part in filming the detention and torture of an Iranian journalist.

Corbyn was paid for appearances on Press TV five times between 2009 and 2012, according to his register of interests, available at this online House of Commons database.

Corbyn’s final Press TV appearance was six months after the network had its broadcasting licence revoked by Ofcom for airing a forced confession by Newsweek journalist Maziar Bahari. Ofcom is the government’s TV regulatory body which sets rules for UK broadcasters. Bahari told Business Insider that while he was detained by Iranian authorities he was tortured and threatened with execution before he agreed to read out a pre-agreed script on Iranian television, filmed by Press TV.

A spokesperson for Corbyn told Business Insider, “We don’t comment on historical matters.”

Corbyn is a progressive politician and a staunch defender of human rights. So his decision to appear on, and take money from, Press TV on multiple occasions is peculiar, even if he is not responsible for the network’s output or its role in the Bahari episode. His appearances occurred when he was a rebellious backbencher with a much lower public profile.

Press TV is part of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s tightly controlled broadcasting machinery. Its director is appointed by Iran’s Supreme Leader — the state’s chief religious and political authority — which means that its output is often biased in favour of strict establishment ideology.

During the period between the year of Corbyn’s first appearance and his last, for example, Iran beheaded at least 1,314 people, according to Amnesty International. It is a place where the rights of women, LGBT people, and religious and ethnic minorities are harshly curtailed. In 2011, the year of Corbyn’s third appearance, three Iranian men were executed for homosexuality. An Amnesty International report released last year said that Sunni Muslims and Kurdish political prisoners have been executed for bringing “corruption” to the world.
“Western politicians who appear on Press TV can be regarded as useful idiots.”

In particular, the fact that Corbyn received a fee of up to £5,000 for an appearance on Press TV months after Ofcom found that the network uncritically aired a forced confession procured by torture seems to be totally at odds with his personal politics. It is not clear exactly how much Corbyn received in total as the register only notes four fees of up to £5,000 each.

Press TV also did not respond to requests for comment.

This pathetic ratbag has condemned the Labor Party to years in the political wilderness.
When I lived in the U.K. I often voted Labor but Corbyn has divided the party, the country and has encouraged the Brexit vote because of his lack lustre performance.
Cameron got it right. The sooner this anti-Semitic appeaser quits the better.

Thanks Stan, I know a skittle more about him now He appears to be more than a ratbag ,he's a bent one,a very bent one. I know he is an outspoken republican and anti monarchist , so I imagine the Queen would be glad to see him go.He.s also a staunch supporter of the palestinians so I imagine the Jewish community would be pleased also.

He's been an absolute disaster Walter. He reminds me a lot of that other ratbag, George Galloway.
They have a lot in common.
The U.K. desperately needs leaders of integrity at this point in time. Corbyn doesn't come close.

"Corbyn is a progressive politician and a staunch defender of human rights."

Actually, I'd have to say no, that is a lie. He's neither of those things if he's allied himself with the inhuman monsters who represent Islam in Iran under their version of Sharia. I recall an interview with a British woman married to an Iranian not all that long after the revolution and she said, no, the West was wrong, nothing had changed for her as a woman. I wonder if she, and other women, still feel that way. Those that aren't actually Jihadists themselves that is. The WORLD needs leaders of integrity at this time and they are few and far between. If the climate doesn't get us the jihadists will, eventually in both cases.

I thought I had been getting used to the corruption and antipathy of post- and transnationalist Europeans who are ashamed of their countries, have little or no patriotism, and want a New World Order, but I must admit that this shocked me.

Clearly, Jeremy Corbyn has little or no moral compass. That he could take money from foreign nationals who have a horrible human rights record, who have said they want to destroy the West, makes me feel that the iron core of Western values is rusting and will continue to do so at an accelerated rate with people like Corbyn, Obama, Trudeau, as well as many European socialists and Islamist water-carriers at the helm.

Certainly younger people, who should better know their history, probably don't see this huge conflict of interest as a problem, and this is frightening. They really have little knowledge and value of their own freedoms, and encroaching Islamization is marching along.

Anyone with an appreciation of their freedoms and liberties will see this as yet another step in the decline of Western civilization, a sell-out, where personal fortune, and the Me generation has lost its moral moorings. This demographic will continue to grow, as Western schools have changed their curricula to achieve such an end. I am continually mortified by the lights of freedom being snuffed out at such a pace.

Ideally, for such outrageous behavior, Jeremy Corbyn should be jailed or perhaps even deported to Iran -- just so he can come back and tell us how wonderful life is in a country that has no regard for women's, gay's, Christian's, and other's rights.

But Jeremy Corbyn sees no problem selling out to the highest bidder and lining his own pockets, and the UK's Muslims and Left are right behind -- the Left selling out their supposed moral underpinnings. Very frightening. Thanks for posting.

I have a feeling that "what goes around, comes around" may be in his future. I don't wish him him harm, I just feel his ignorance, stupidity and greed may turn on him, or be thrown at him.
