See the Woman
She has a young face
An old face
She carries herself well
In all ages
She survives all man has done

In some tribes she is free
In some religions
She is under man
In some societies
She’s worth what she consumes

In some nations
She is delicate strength
In some states
She is told she is weak
In some classes
She is property owned

In all instances
She is sister to earth
In all conditions
She is life bringer
In all life she is our necessity

See the woman eyes
Flowers swaying
On scattered hills
Sundancing calling in the bees

See the woman heart
Lavender butterflies
Fronting blue sky
Misty rain falling
On soft wild roses

See the woman beauty
Lightning streaking
Dark summer nights
Forests of pines mating
With new winter snow

See the woman spirit
Daily serving courage
With laughter
Her breath a dream
And a prayer

John Trudell

I have had the great fortune in this life to have many wonderful women be part of it. Each one has shaped my life and has made me the better for their having been in my life. I also thank the many lovely women I have had the pleasure of meeting on C2, some linked in friendship to me. Some already on this thread. I thank you all for adding a specialness to my days and evenings.

strong yet considered
weaker than the man
who leans upon her.

considered barter
to feed the family,
other sisters,
waiting their turn
for barter.

abused, misused,
yet raising daughters
strong, rebellious
unwilling to slave
for the weak, dependent

It is a lovely tribute to women and the feminine energy, dear Dandelion, so perfectly formulated and presented by John Trudell. He is a special man, being able to perceive these realities that so many women live, while still giving hope to the feminine force.

When it comes to Women’s Day I feel both sad and glad. The reason for the sadness is my knowledge of the pain and suffering so many women must live with every day on our Earth, due to patriarchal domination.

In “Sisterhood is Global” Robin Morgan described already in 1984 the daily war against women:
“While women represent half the global population and one-third of the labor force, they receive only one-tenth of the world income and own less than one percent of world property. They also are responsible for two-thirds of all working hours. . . . Not only are females most of the poor, the starving, and the illiterate, but women and children constitute more than 90 percent of all refugees of the world, as well as being the primary caretakers of the elderly.”

Recent figures from 2004 states that the issue of inequality between men and women has not improved. In fact the fourth edition of the Global Gender Gap Report from World Economic Forum published in 2009 confirms that no country on Earth is gender equal. The inequality is specifically obvious in the categories political empowerment and economic participation. Iceland ranked the highest, having closed the gap with 83 percent, while Yemen was the lowest having closed only around 46 percent. Hence, on Women’s Day I mourn the pain suffered by the world’s women.

With this said, I still feel glad because of the existence of the feminine energy, a force that is available to us all, men as well as women, but which often is manifested mainly in women. The feminine energy promotes cooperation, conservation, optimization, contraction, reproduction, and a quality of life for society and nature.

However, this beautiful caring energy is currently subordinated by the free-flowing and dominant masculine energy manifested as our Patriarchy. Patriarchal domination does not want any feminine limitation to its masculine activities of competition, exploitation, maximization, expansion, production, and pursuing unlimited quantities of individual profit. However, without the restraining feminine force, Patriarchy will destroy Mother Earth.

Although this beautiful feminine force currently is undermined by Patriarchy, it remains a strong, persistent, and compassionate energy, and it will save our precious Earth and all her priceless lives from the destruction of the free-flowing masculine energy. Hence, on Women’s Day I celebrate the feminine energy.

John Trudell has in his poem managed to combine the feminine energy and the physical women into one united whole, expressing just that.

Big thanks and standing ovations for Sheryl for sharing these wonderful messages in words and images, that goes out to Zee as well! May the honor for us females last way past the 8th May.

In addition to Jytte's comment- excellent as usual- I'd like to add this: I somehow sense and feel we currently live in a time which may well be the beginning of the end of patriarchy;- examples of our enormous power as a united force have just been observed in the Rush Limbaugh case...hope there will be more of this in the future

The part of the comment you made Lyn L. " I cannot believe the stupidity that reigns in this country over the female sex. They should be a protected species cause they are the potential mothers of the human race."

Reminds me of this poem by Joy Harjo - Muskogee

"The Blanket Around Her"

Maybe it is her birth
which she hold close to herself
or her death
which is just as inseparable
and the white wind
that encircles her is a part
just as the blue sky
hanging in turquoise from her neck
oh woman
remember who you are
it is the whole earth

Wow, thank you ladies, I just woke up to find all these beautiful messages upon this thread. Nice to see you my dear Susanne, I know you are still healing, and I'm delighted to see you are well enough to honor us all on this thread. I'm sending more healing energy upon the Winds that you may continue on that postive path.

Susanne R., you are so correct here in the USA many gains we have made are under attack, we as women need to have courage and address this, if we fail to do so, the strong forces within this Country will have us on par of Yemen, if they are allowed to get away with it.

It is suggested that all take the time to read Jytte's offering for there is a lot of information within that is both sad but enlightening. I had seen those statistics of Robin Morgan on various sites that help women but I never knew who contributed them, now I do, thank you for placing that information here. We speak of inequality in our various Countries but this is a stark reminder of global inequality.

Susanne P. I'm sure that Lyn L. will not mind that you carried over her words to this page, she left them on a public thread and they fit nicely on this story as well. A lot of people seemed to have enjoyed Joy Harjo's poem on that thread, so thank you for bringing it to this thread so that others who may not of seen it have the opportunity to do so.

Kweh daweti' tsatsih nesha daweti' deyomeh daometsa'yeh,
(greetings all sisters and all women of the earth)

Moon cycles because of you, you are our source, our love, our hidden strength,
you are the essence of all that will bring about healing our broken earth.
When you cry the rivers flood, when you laugh , all the birds sing,
like the ocean the strength of women can never be weighed or fathomed
when you move the earth trembles in admiration, you are our reason to be.

some of us are diligently working to see to it you are recognized and honored
because only then... ONLY THEN will our circle(s) be restored.

John Trudell is a holy man; he speaks like a prophet and fills the heart of all who hear his words with the simple pride of being a human being on this great mother we all share. Our government has repeatedly harassed him, targeted him for persecution, and is alleged to have had a hand in murdering his family. Anyone who hasn't seen the movie "Trudell" should go find it right now. Why is this righteous man considered "The Most Dangerous Man in the United States"? If he is what our government fears, then there is something horribly wrong with our government.

Thanks you Lion. We will never go wrong by listening to John Trudell. We can rest assured, that those with insight in Daniel 12:3, have been shining brightly since the days of Hank Williams and Woody Guthrie. Arlo has told me that those 2 did meet. Thought provoking thought of mine is, what if those 2 troubadours were together in the 60s?

Dandelion this video made my spirit soar... our Mother Earth's heartbeat intrinsically interwoven with our own speaks her wisdoms through us .... may all women be embraced in spirit with renewed courage to be ... to live life openly and unafraid, to rise up beyond the pain of persecution, to sing her own song and dance her own dance freely ... let us always stand together side by side with our sisters from the four directions. It is when together our laughter rings out carried upon the winds that brings hope to another sister far away ... and it is our tears that enable every woman to reach out for the hand of her sister with compassion and comfort understanding the pain of her journey. We are the CareTakers of future generations. Ours is an inherent responsibility. This is our common thread. We know who we are. We take up the challenge individually and collectively. We stand with the oppressed in countries where our sisters young and old are abused. We fight for justice for our sisters suffering racial prejudice. We embrace in heart and soul our sisters raped and tortured left to suffer in body mind and spirit violent crimes committed against them. We reach out with our love especially to children sold into slavery and sex trafficking.
A woman embodies all this and so much more.
I honor every woman and give thanks for the beauty that being a woman has brought to me in my life.
Sheryl I honor you as my cyber sis and friend for being the woman who shares wisdom in strength and beauty with us all.
That is my wish for all women, that we may walk together in strength, in wisdom and in beauty always.
John Trudell's poem See the Woman, so beautifully presented is soul stirring and simply magnificent.

March is Women’s History Month, and March 8th is International Women’s Day. First observed in the U.S. on February 28, 1909, the day has come to symbolize women’s struggles for equal rights. While it’s been nearly a century since women across the country won the right to vote and the right to work alongside men, equal pay continues to remain a distant goal.

I truly hope this changes very soon!

Thank you so much, Dandelion; and for John Trudell's poem. I want to greet ALL women here on C2. =^..^=

"With a selfish attitude, oneself is important, and others are not so important. According to Shantideva's advice, a technique to help in turning this attitude around is to imagine- in front of yourself as an unbiased observer- your own selfish self on one side and a limited number of other beings on the other side- ten, fifty, or a hundred. On one side is your proud, selfish self, and on the other side is a group of poor, needy people. You are, in effect, in the middle- as an unbiased, third person. Now, judge. Is this one, single, selfish person more important? Or is the group of people more important? Think. Will you join this side or that side? Naturally, if you are a real human being, your heart will go with the group because the number is greater and they are more needy. The other one is just a single person, proud and stupid. Your feeling naturally goes with the group. By thinking in this way, selfishness gradually decreases, and RESPECT OF OTHERS grows. This is is the way to practice." - His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Ah, my dear friend, Sheryl. So much I have gained from having met you here on Care2. You are the epitome of womanhood. Your soul surrounds us all with love, light, dignity, wisdom, gentleness and courage. The video and poem are beacons in dark days for women. They speak of a truth that the world is slowly waking up to. And because of women like you and Susanne and all women, we will stand together and we will be heard. When Mother Earth created her first woman child, she created you. Thank you to all of the women here and the men too, for your words, your love and your strength. Together we are all a force to be reckoned with and we will overcome. I am so very proud to be a part of this precious thing called womanhood.

Thank you dandelion for sharing this thought provoking and inspiring poem. A beautiful piece of writing that makes us feel proud to be women and sisters. It evokes hope and compassion and truly pulls at the heart strings when we recall the injustice women suffer all over the world. But we are strong and there is a bond that helps us as we sense the love between us. Joy, peace and love to all women. The video too is lovely.

I came back to watch and listen to this BEAUTIFUL poem of women, as I mourn Dr. Maya Angelou today. It feels appropriate to me...your gift continues to give. Thank you again...another time...another moment of healing blessings received.
