Shines a light on ordinary people who acted with exceptional courage, conviction, and clarity when presented with information they just couldn't live without revealing. People who believed in all that America promises and saw that Nation come after them.

I guess we can just add this war to the other disgraceful ones our nation has brought to it's people and the world.

Will the InsaniTea ever end...and do so without destroying all that we once knew as our America...I really do wonder.

This gives information on how to obtain the free DVD or download. Thought it was a good deal.

I know the InsaniTea is very real but we must also look at the other insane actions on the other side of the coin as well.

President Obama's war on whistle blowers that has led to his administration arresting more people under the 1917 espionage Act than all of the previous governments put together.

Up to Obama taking office, the US government had only prosecuted three whistle-blowers in 40 years. Now under Obama six people have/are being prosecuted for their whistle blowing activities.

Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! is one of the journalists bringing the lawsuit against military judge Denis Lind. She has warned:

“Secret trials are commonplace in dictatorships, but have no place in this country. The Obama administration conducts unconstitutional dragnet surveillance of journalists to uncover protected sources, and targets whistle blowers with unprecedented use of the espionage act.

Access to court documents and proceedings in the court martial of Bradley Manning is vital to the public's right to know to what lengths their government will go to keep secret their conduct of wars and occupations abroad.”

Speaking of Whistle Blowers; there are two famous ones. Daniel Ellsberg of the Pentagon Papers 1971 and the current Bradley Manning.

The Papers revealed that the U.S. had expanded its war with bombing of Cambodia and Laos, coastal raids on North Vietnam, and Marine Corps attacks, none of which had been reported by media in the US.

The most damaging revelations in the papers revealed that four administrations, from Truman to Johnson, had misled the public regarding their intentions.

President Johnson had decided to expand the war while promising "we seek no wider war" during his 1964 presidential campaign, including plans to bomb North Vietnam well before the 1964 Election.

President Johnson had been outspoken against doing so during the election and claimed that his opponent Barry Goldwater was the one that wanted to bomb North Vietnam.

And more was revealed than that, but these papers really helped to turn the tide of the war in Viet Nam to end.

Sign Daniel Ellsberg Petition To Free Bradley Manning

Bradley Manning is today's Daniel Ellsberg for Iraq. As Daniel Ellsberg has said, "I was Bradley Manning" and we all are Bradley Manning. He is one of us.

Noted. TY Dandelion. What a disappointment President Obama has turned out to be. He wants to cut Social Security, Authorizes spying on citizens, and endorses war on whistle blowers. Only True Blue Democrats like Representative Grayson and Senator Harkin, Warren, and Sanders hold any hope for the party. Otherwise President Obama has managed to turn over the majority in both houses to Republicans.

Thank you for this, Dandelion, and for your comments above. One of the journalists on the website, Dana Priest, co-wrote the massive Washington Post investigative piece, Top Secret America (First Installment July 19, 2010). That investigation outlines an unimaginably enormous surveillance apparatus that has evolved after 9/11. There was so much money in the funding for this sprawling enterprise, that it was hard to determine what to do with it, according to the report. It is chilling to think of the capacity to spy on us citizens, most of whom love this country and the principles it was founded upon. Frontline did an episode on Top Secret America that you may remember. I was just revisiting Top Secret America. I also spent some time looking at the action guide for War On Whistleblowers on pdf. I look forward to watching the video.

I understand John for some under no circumstances, I take it you served. But I do believe there is exceptions to every rule. I do not go along with the soldiers who said under Hitler "we were only following orders" when innocent men, women, and children were murdered. Nor when the calvary at Wounded Knee surrounded and massacred the defenseless Indians.

There are times when the average person all need to band and say, this is not right. Or in Bradley's case he KNEW too many wrongs, too many innocent lives being taken out, be it our Country or another, wrong is still wrong. Pvt. Bradley Manning saw this and stood up to it, for that I consider him a brave man.

This country has been corrupted incrementally over the past decades since it entered its first war that was poorly thought out and had ulterior motives --"Vietnam" - I proudly protested that war, at a time that I dodged the draft - being bi - they didn't want me - and I didn't want them - it was a mutual decision and one that started to clarify my ideas about how wrong America was in certain respects!
To say "my country right or wrong" is to become a Nazi - that is a more German statement - it insidiously took those soldiers by surprise, there wasn't an outcry as there should have been!
Our country is now ending wars that were ill-begotten or illegal to begin with - that almost renders your point moot! We need more than ever the Bradley Mannings of this country to rise up and ring the alarm - this is one of the most corrupt nation's on Earth - and it has completely voided it's principles and morals - it's laws are being rewritten to accommodate illegality, from torture to surveillance, to killing innocents and redesigning the ethical standards with which war may be fought -- this is the most dangerous time I've ever lived in and one that I find very difficult to maintain any sense of patriotism when the country I once pledged "allegiance" to has decided to abandon the principles upon which it was founded!
You are very wrong John G - I don't blame you for feeling the way you do - you're a vet - but that doesn't make you right - I'm sure you meant well fighting for your country as much as I meant well not doing so - but to condemn Bradley Manning per se - by morals that the "government" once stood for - is to bark up an ancient and wrong tree. Once the government abandons its laws - then the "whistle-blowers" who bring that to our attention are our heroes!

There is a laundry list of the many injustices to citizens by their governments, whether in the US or any country. No president has changed the institutional attitude toward whistle blowers, not Obama nor his predecessors, nor a future yet to be named president. We are addicted to the mental image of National Security, and that too is the hammer used to smash any one who dares speak out.

No, Deb, it never was the country we thought it was. Everything we were taught....is a lie.

That realization is what finally killed my father. After all that man had been through and lived through, to come to the realization that his government lied to him, his commanders had lied to him and that his countrymen were deaf, dumb and blind to all of it....that is what finally took the will to live out of him. That and going into Afghanistan, which he said would be another Viet Nam....he was right.

Tea Baggers want to go back to a Time that never was, an America that never was. What we are living in is New Rome, which we have been living in for the last 4 decades. And now....it is beginning to burn. Look around you, we live in a Fascist Oligarchy. Only now it is 'in-your-face' and no longer hiding behind a piece of parchment.

It took Rome 500 years to finally fall, it will take us less than a century.

Thanks for the article, Sheryl.

Well stated Lee, thank you. I recall my Father not understanding why when I stood up against Viet Nam why I would do so. He had served his Country at D-Day of WWII. I tried to explain to him that Viet Nam was not WWII that this was a whole other cup of tea. He just couldn't see it. I suspect that for a lot of Veterans it is hard for them to also see. However, then there are a lot of Veterans that have seen too much.

Yes, Governments are never perfect, but I felt that before the last several decades at least ours was trying. With the Social Security to help the aged along with Medicare, that we obtained programs that were beginning to life the poor out of poverty with Food Stamps until the Viet Nam War started to cut into those programs as Martin Luther King Jr. had noticed and mentioned.
We gained headway for the right with women, gay, and the Civil Rights came forth. It looked real promising, we still had issues to tackle but it did all seem plausible.

I don't recognize this Country anymore, it doesn't seem to care about the environment, it's citizens, nor anyone else in this world. It in tatters, and in the pockets of a few that belong to groups like ALEC. And I will call out Obama on this topic of Whistle Blower for the statistic do not lie.

Again:

President Obama's war on whistle blowers that has led to his administration arresting more people under the 1917 espionage Act than all of the previous governments put together.

Up to Obama taking office, the US government had only prosecuted three whistle-blowers in 40 years. Now under Obama six people have/are being prosecuted for their whistle blowing activities.

This has been our problem in this Country, the Democrats are quick to point the failed policies that the Republicans have done and the Republicans are quick to point out the Democrats wrongdoings. Both have contributed to this mess and now neither will do what is correct for this Country. Even when a good policy is presented, as the Democrats have done, that in the past was supported and wanted by the Republicans, the Republicans will not sign it on so we get nothing done, except if it is good for the 1%, then it happens.

It it wasn't for whistleblowers, abuse of power & misappropriation of funds would never come to light. Remember Watergate. That was a whistleblower. What about the IRS now? I just found out that it's the tip of the iceberg. The managers have been doing such stunts for YEARS, and WE pay for it.

"President Obama's war on whistle blowers that has led to his administration arresting more people under the 1917 espionage Act than all of the previous governments put together."

I TRUSTED that man. I supported him for many and good reasons. But I do not support what he is doing now. I do not support a government operating by closed doors that exclude we, the people, whose country and government this is. He says the right things in public but behind closed doors he operates as if he were Comrade Stalin, though we have no "camps" - yet. Government of the people and by the people must operate in the open, in fresh air, not be hidden behind closed doors and spy tactics worthy of the most inhumane of societies, choking off the dissent that has always fueled our democracy. This is NOT what I voted for. Not even close.

Indeed Gene, be weary of the ones who Talk a Talk but fail to Walk their Talk. I voted for Rocky Anderson of the Justice Party, I saw through him his first 4 years but everyone was trying to excuse him. I understand that, the Country was and is in a mess so many felt he needed time. But he threw Social Security on the chopping block, he didn't get rid of the Patriot Act and in fact signed in NDAA. These were just a few things in his first term that I could not excuse him from, there was more.

I'll never forget the night he was standing at the airport near the plane saluting the coffins with the American flags on them. Up to that point he said he would only send more troops in Afghanistan if he had to, he was really going to think on it. There really wasn't and hasn't been a National Security issue to remain there since his being in office. But when I saw it my heart sunk into my chest, I said, here is his publicity stunt, he is to send more troops in.....and he did. Yet he was still assuring the public I have made no firm plans, yes he had.

What a refreshing thread.....liberals digging for the truth. Americans are on their feet on both sides of the political arena. It's comforting to see our liberal friends stand up for what is going wrong in Washington DC today.

In my group, Political Derby, we are doing our due diligence. We are looking at and posting voting records of every single republican presidential hopeful that we can think of. IF we will be in a position to put forth a viable candidate we MUST know their voting record and where they stand. Like you, we are tired of being hood winked during a presidential campaign by a "mouth" spitting out lies.

It's time that both parties know the candidates and I mean, really know their candidates. The only way you can do this is through research.

t's time for us to consider that being a "liberal or a conservative" today is not what we think it should mean. I honestly feel that the moderate democrats and the moderate republicans have somehow come together to be the "real" American party....and I would welcome an open conversation along this line.

Just like with Watergate, the only reason any of this is coming to light is because of the elections coming up. The Republicans want to make sure that their base will not have second thoughts about voting Republican and this is the way to do it. When they can get Dems to speak out against what their elected President is doing, they have turned the tide. They are sweating it for 2014. And they want to get the Nation fired up to vote Republican. This spying on Americans and all of this stuff that "appears" to just be something Obama is doing is just DC at work. This is what our government is and always has been. Some conspiracy theories are actually true. Some ... not all ... but some. And I never did trust Obama and I tried like heck to convince everyone I knew NOT to vote for him in the primary in fact, I was a delegate from my State for Hilary. But, these kinds of things happen in all governments and I just wish more people had the guts to put their own life aside and do what is "right" for a Nation. We must have Whistleblowers, or we are doomed.

I believe in Americans calling a spade a spade. If there is something that is thwarting our ability to be forthright and honest in government and in our military then we need courageous Americans to step forward...so, yes, Terrie, mark this date in time. As a republican, I seek the truth.

We are defined by our political parties. What I am seeing today is that what use to be the old republican party and what use to be the old democratic party is now the conservative party. The socialist leaning dems and republicans have muddied the political waters IMO. Not to worry.....I believe our country will get back where it needs to be but first we need to get he socialists out of our White House. The progressives have infiltrated our Constitution and they need to be kicked to the curb. We must preserve our Constitution. We are a Republic. We are America. We will never be a nanny state. It will NEVER happen so we need to clean up the crap that has been allowed to happen over many decades and get Americans on their feet with jobs earning a living to support themselves. I'm tired of supporting people who can work....if they had a job to go to. Obama killed the jobs. Pipeline? Let's roll......let's get it going and tell the middle east "bye bye." Imagine that.

Diane, you were doing pretty good until you started to say the Progressives are somehow attacking the Constitution. They don't want a ruination of the Country any more than the Republicans. This is NOT a Progressive President, he may have fooled a lot of Democrats but he isn't what true Progressives want with NDAA, but then Bush put in the Patriot Act.

No one wants hand outs, but it becomes necessary to protect people from the base bottom of starvation. When a system doesn't offer opportunities, or if someone is truly disabled, there should be protections in place. We can't be having all the wealth going up to the top leaving millions floundering around upon no real fault of their own. This was a planned economic crash. I suggest you read this article.
Make The Economy Scream On Economic Terrorism

Both the Republican and the Democratic Parties have failed the Country and the People because they have failed to do what was best for the people and catered to the special interests.

And please, the pipeline is sending the oil out of this Country. All that tar sand isn't going to fuel us, it is being sent to China, Japan, India, a few jobs that will not last but has a lasting devastating affect on the overall environment.

We needs jobs, indeed, we need to have jobs in the green economy, and I've left you links before Diane to read on how the Republicans have shot down a number of times to increase jobs in this Country. That is why I say both of the Parties have done wrong and need to be held accountable. So yes, all of the whistleblowers are important so isn't the ones who are writing and show us what is truly going wrong. Please stop listening to just the right wing talk as I don't listen to just the left, but instead Walk to a truly more Progressive Peoples Movement.

So sorry about your Father Terrie. My late husband was Viet Nam Vet and just before he died in 2003 he said something along the lines of he was getting out (of this life) just in time as he couldn't bare to see things getting any worse than they already were.

He could see the handwriting on the wall and I think, like your Father, he felt the same way. His only reason for sorrow was that he'd not be around to help me or his children as he knew it was going to be hard up ahead. As for the rest of it, he was so broken hearted.

Thank you, Sheryl, you have my empathy as always my friend. We share more than you think.

As for Diane.....it was short-lived hope I guess on my part to think all sides could have a decent conversation. LOLOLOL. But then....living where I do, I know exactly what you are saying and in the context that it is meant. Being the only daughter (the son my father never had) of an 'Old School' 30-year career Marine...All I can say to that is.......Come get some.

By the way....Obama has turned out to be the BEST frikken President the REPUBLICANS could ever wish for. You do not want 'A Republic', Diane, you want a Totalitarian Fascist Regime. You have gotten what you wanted......so far. Obama, a Socialist.......please. ROFLMAO. Furthest thing from it.

I am reading "Conversations with God" book 2 and let me tell you, whether its from God or not, this book needs to be sent to each and every person in the country/ and the WORLD. Its talking about this kind of thing..the greed of the govt and how all they care about is THEM.

They are doing SOOO much behind the scenes that we dont know about and WE SHOULD be scared.

The govt is sick. I dont trust any politican ever because they ALL LIE. Obama just lied better. Do you think he REALLY cares what happens to this country? this is his 2nd term so he can do what he wants and he is. I thought he was the lessor of two evils but I still didnt vote for him. both parties are corrupt and hopefully people will WAKE UP and vote for 3rd parties. its sad thought that too many are brainwashed and believe the rhetoric thats been repeated over and over.

I wish more whistleblowers would come forward..,but ya know, UNLESS THE MASSES STAND UP it wont even matter.. WHY do you think Obama is stockpiling ammo and retrofitted tanks to fit our streets and is FIRING homeland security workers who refuse to fire at americans? He may not the the anti Christ but hes certainly not FOR this country. Either is his wife.. look her up

Hi all,
I hate to say, not really but I told you so. The government spies on all us and all communications. When it shows they monitor the press, freedom of information is lost.
In truth we live in a polce state. We have blindly followed this thing that we are the voters but the government is a separate entity. We have been dumbed down to falsely accept this notion.
We forget We the People are the government. We don,t serve and exist to serve the govenment, the government exists to serve us. We elect officials as representative of us as they come from us.
They don't exist to serve Banking Cartels, Big Corporations and lobbyist both registered and unregistered (ALEC). On spying as the false government monitors all of us, have you thought about
who monitors the monitors? I propose a simple solution and welcome comments on how to implement the program I suggest or how to improve on my idea or not.
I suggest a sepate but independent group or committee that can monitor all governmet activities and have all access to all agencies including but not limited to NSA, CIA, FBI including
all information gathered to spying on all communications. This group obviously have highest secret clearance to monitor all communications and have rights to attend all meetings
from start to finish. The object of this committee or agency is to see that all agencies adhere to constitutional rights being protected and to prevent over clssification of
information being classified as secret to avoid embarrasing info being classified as secret for cover up information. This group would then go over documents and give cease
these activities or risk having this information being released to the pubic as a right to know. That is the simple premise and needs further modification.
People like Snowdon (sp?) Bradly Manning, Julian Assange etc be included as people who are not afraid to blow the whistle.

Sheryl G (359)
Monday July 1, 2013, 8:09 am
Sounds good Julian and maybe in the beginning with the likes of Manning and Assange it would work for a bit. However, those who have the control now will not let it go, they in turn will make sure that another so called "Manning" would be placed in that seat, and then you just would eventually have another group spying on the groups that are spying.

I think we need to have term limits in the political offices and the Supreme Court, none of the rest of us have a job forever security like the Supreme Court and term limits would cut down on the bribes or who those that have been elected are beholden to.

We need to get the money out of the politics, those already elected spend too much of their time trying to keep their positions and fundraising for the next election. Is horrendous the amount of money that is spent for each election today. A set fee should be set up for running for Office and that is the end of it, and to come from a pool of monies set aside for elections, taken out of taxes. Each viable Candidate has the same amount to work from, that is it, period. Anyone caught taking in extra monies is eliminated from the election.

Everyone from the 3rd Parties to the two that everyone seems to think is the only two they can select from all have the same amount of air time on TV and radio. All are at the debates, and each would have the same bit of money to buy extra air time and use it as they see fit, when it's gone it's gone. That way everyone is on the same playing field, big Corporate or individual Billionaires can't buy the elections.

And we go back to paper ballots. I don't care if it takes a month to learn who was elected as long as it is fair and not rigged.

You are certainly correct when you say the Government exists to SERVE us but that seems to be lost upon most of those in DC now as well as many in the masses. Right now our Government is existing to help the Banking Cartels, Big Corporations, and take what ALEC provides them all neatly written up and places it into our new policies. This whole system has been corrupted to the core and it needs to be cleaned out and new ways of doing things put into place, like term limits and money of the elections. But the corrupted ones are not going to do this, that is why a Populace Movement is so important and the people must take the power away from the ones that are there serving not the people but themselves and their "bosses", this I could see being done quicker if a 3rd Party was quickly voted in, or several 3rd Parties at lower levels. Those who would not be beholden and could start the work for the masses again.
