I agree Susan, business as usual must change, this to me is at least a good try. Lawrence Lessig is a really smart man with a Good Heart. That is important. There are intelligent people but without good hearts we get screwed over by them.

I didn't want to sway anyone on what to do so I hadn't placed this on the thread or the last time for the $1 that was trying to reach. But as we are down to the wire I place this on here now.

Thank you for pledging in support of Mayday's campaign to get money out of politics.

It wasn't much, wish I could do more, but as I've said every dollar counts. If this can eventually help us all, I'm sure with better policies that will be the best spent money I've donated. Will make all our lives better and my children's and grandchildren's as well.

Noted and shared video to many Pinterest political and activists boards, on Google + to public and in several other political and activists communities, to Facebook and on Twitter.

The Plan To Take Our Democracy Back | http://youtu.be/i3X2eDCmPRY

This can work if we work together; but one thing is certain, if we don't at least try something different, it will mean politics as usual. Thanks.

I don't mean to be a party pooper, but I'm not sure pledging $Millions is the way to get money out of politics because we're still voting for politicians who have no interest in saving anything but themselves. We need a new system, not just a new round of the same ol'-same ol'. We need a real revolution, I'm afraid.

If you watch the video's Caitlin, the are going to support Candidates that will stand behind this. As they say, the only way sometimes to fight fire is with more fire. Lawrence Lessig is a brilliant man and the team he has I'm sure is equally qualified. Look over the site, it offers a lot of information.

I want to thank all those on C2 who contributed and/or forwarded the information around on the May Day PAC for with your help.

WE DID IT!

After I exhausted any further ways I could reach out to people, on C2, off C2. I finally just said, "I've done all I can."

Afterwards the fireworks began outside beyond the tree line. an excellent show that I watched from my bedroom window.

Someone put a lot of energy and money into this as it was as good as any I've seen that a town would put on. I'm assuming these were launched at the tennis courts as it appeared to be in that direction. Well good job to who-ever put it on, I had a ring side seat looking from the comfort of my room.

Then I came back and updated the May Day Pac information. Oh it was so close. I kept updating it every 10 minutes and the tally was going up. I do miss the day when a lot of C2 members use to stay with the thread on these things, we had fun together with the current updates. But I did stick with it. I knew that others were working hard at getting this out to the public, so I still felt part of the whole.

WE DID IT!

47503 citizens contributed…

$5,028,152 to fight corruption over just 30 days

Tally at 9:50 EST.

124 days left until election day

Now WE THE PEOPLE have our PAC. This gives me hope.

Again, thanks to all who helped to make this possible.

And this from Lessig:
"
J,

You did it. Amazingly, dramatically, beautifully, you did it.

I won’t say I knew you would. I wasn’t that smart. And I won’t even say this crowdfunding idea was mine. It wasn’t. But when I heard it, I knew it was right, and that we had to do it.

And that was right.

No one expected we could do this. Neither the $1M nor the $5M. Of course, when we crossed $1M, plenty said they knew we would — though most of them were quite sure we could never make the $5M. And now that we’ve crossed $5M, you can be sure there will be plenty who say they knew we’d do this too.

But the truth is, no one knew — because the fact is, this time, the time we live in, is different. The frustration with the mess we call Congress is palpable, and the desperate urge to do something about it is raw. There are campaigns happening everywhere to rally people to the idea that we must find a way to end this corruption — from the amazing 480 mile walk of 99Rise from LA to Sacramento to fight for corruption reform, to the incredible campaign in New York by Zephyr Teachout fighting for corruption reform, to the New Hampshire Rebellion, crossing 185 miles of New Hampshire in January to rally that state to ask every presidential candidate one simple question: What will you do to end the system of corruption in DC?

This may be this movements most incredible moment so far. The pundits say America doesn’t care about this issue. This is America caring. And this is America demanding something more. Ideally now. But if we have to wait till 2016, then ok: Because by 2016, we’re going to elect a Congress that will fundamentally change how campaigns are funded. You have guaranteed it.

After we get some sleep, you’ll hear more from us. But fear not: the campaign to raise money is over for this cycle. I won’t be asking you to DONATE NOW again and again. That bit is done. Instead, for the rest of this cycle, what you’ll hear from us is about how your campaign is working. We’ve got lots of ideas about how to make this work. We’ll be testing them and improving them and building lots that’s new. But you’ve raised the money. It’s time to get down to work. So stay tuned.

As I race to finish this before we cross $5M (we’re at $4.95M right now), I can’t help but think back to where this all started for me. Or maybe, to who. I’ve told the story about how my friend Aaron Swartz turned me to this work. I struggled to tell the story of how his death convinced me that the most important thing that we must do is to give this democracy exactly the thing that he lost — hope. Our march across New Hampshire tried to do that. And now this has done that too: if nothing else, this has given people hope that something is possible.

If Aaron had been here, he would have been skeptical. He would have said, “why do you think anyone will give you anything?” But then he would have embraced the amazing and undeserved humility that defined everything about him, and he would have opened his computer, and helped build the system.

And tonight, he would have smiled. At you. At us. At what we’ve done. And at what all this says about what is possible. Tonight we would have given him hope — just the thing that he, that all of us, needed.

Thank you for this.

- Lessig"

If you really want to revamp the US political system maybe you should think along the lines of:Norway,Sweden,Denmark,Germany(partially) and the UK,these Countries have all banned any form of broadcasting of political adds either using TV or Radio, newspapers or the net. This would give you a better chance to vote for independant represantatives and will revolutionise your system which only benefits Big Money. It will end any kind of "Swiftboating" and probably end Rush Limbough's radioshow.
Even though these Countries have banned political adds, Democracy is still alive and kicking in all of them.
Let me just end by congratulate you on reaching the goal for MayDay PAC.

Sheryl G (360)
Saturday July 5, 2014, 5:12 am
That is the hope Arild, to get people into office that will start passing such things that will regain our democracy. We use to even have the fair right to our airways, called the Fairness Doctrine, where if one view was spoken the opposing view had to also be given equal time, that was eliminated in 1987. Now who has the most money rules the day, so with billions in the Koch Brothers pockets and other hard right conservatives we do not have balance anymore.

This started by an appointee of the FCC under Ronald Reagan. The FCC vote was opposed by members of Congress who said the FCC had tried to "flout the will of Congress" and the decision was "wrongheaded, misguided and illogical." Both times Congress tried to overturn this and both Ronald Reagan and then George Bush vetoed it.

Others have tried to introduce the Fairness Doctrine back over the years. Senator Tom Harkin told Press, "We gotta get the Fairness Doctrine back in law again." Later in response to Press's assertion that "...they are just shutting down progressive talk from one city after another," Senator Harkin responded, "Exactly, and that's why we need the fair—that's why we need the Fairness Doctrine back." Former President Bill Clinton has also shown support for the Fairness Doctrine. During an appearance on the Mario Solis Marich radio show, Clinton said:

“Well, you either ought to have the Fairness Doctrine or we ought to have more balance on the other side, because essentially there's always been a lot of big money to support the right wing talk shows.”

Which in this case Arild would be the likes of Rush Limbaugh's show you mention. That being one of them.

In the 111th Congress (January 2009 to January 2011), the Broadcaster Freedom Act of 2009 was introduced to block reinstatement of the Doctrine. In part a response to conservative radio talk show hosts who feared that Democrats would try to revive the policy to ensure liberal opinions got equal time. The AP report went on to say that President Obama had no intention of reimposing the doctrine, but Republicans, led by Sen. Jim DeMint, R-SC, wanted more in the way of a guarantee that the doctrine would not be reimposed.

In June 2011, the Chairman and a subcommittee chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, both Republicans, said that the FCC, in response to their requests, had set a target date of August 2011 for removing the Fairness Doctrine from the FCC's rule book. On August 22, 2011, the FCC formally voted to repeal the language that implemented the Fairness Doctrine and the White House under Obama with executive order directing a "government-wide review of regulations already on the books", to eliminate unnecessary regulations which included the Fairness Doctrine. As they say, with friends like that who needs an enemy.

I also see a lot of the Japanese text coming through. Not sure what to make of it. I did get one of the comments translated and it said Thank you. So it might simply be that, we have English speakers who comment with only a Thank you on the threads as well. I do agree with what Ros said, we must be careful as there are spammers on here, but we also must be careful we don't offend others from other Countries as this is an International site.

CONGRATULATIONS ! I call this a miracle..really a 4th July to be remembered and brought you one step closer to real independence. BIG BIG thanks to everyone, especially Sheryl for her tireless efforts with this!!
I'll have to trust the updated numbers posted here, although Lessig's letter is somewhat confusing to me ("And now that we’ve crossed $5M..." and then later "As I race to finish this before we cross $5M (we’re at $4.95M right now)") but was apparently written before reaching the 5M but in full confidence that they would.

Sheryl G (360)
Saturday July 5, 2014, 8:31 am
Lawrence Lessig was typing the letter to send out when it was $4.95 million as he was pretty certain then they'd reach the $5 million.

Thanks for the Congrats on this Angelika. This is a good start as the people behind this effort are intelligent and with Hearts. This we must have, both intelligence with heart. It is going to take a lot of effort from many of us to continue the momentum but I'm glad to see that there are others out there, that despite the odds, threw their time, energy, and some money behind this. I'm excited to have played my small part in it.

changing from, getting away from "business as usual" was, for mwe the whole purpose behind the "60's revolution. It was not, initially, as Mick Jagger told the Prime Minister, on live TV, that "We just want to have fun!" Mick was a fool to think so, in my book, and lost a possibly valuable "teachable moment," there.
After "business as usual" had led to worldwide imperialism, and two, COUNT THEM, two World Wars, what the hell was the purpose of blithely going along "as usual?"
Well, here we are, after more decades "as usual," being hugely imperialistic, pushing religious,as in seeding, and feeding, the fear and hate of homosexuality in Africa) and financial imperialism all over the damned [place, getting blowback, and wondering why so many people hate us.
We need SOOOOOOO badly, to get the crazies out of congress!!!

Mitchell D (86)

Yes we do need to get them out and the Supreme Court. I heard on one program as the latter have lifetime jobs once appointed, that with the age some are today they could be making decisions for another 30 years plus. I'm with the opinion that no one should have a lifetime job and no way to be held accountable. We can't impeach or rebuttal them, they are in a league of their own. We must find a way to limit their time in this position by shorter appointments or having to be elected every so many years.

Freedom is a state of consciousness, and can never be attained through war, power struggles, or the destruction of other. Wars are manufactured by those who stand to profit from them – never forget that. The energies of war and the profiteering from it in the name of “Freedom” must dissolve into the nothingness. No longer are those simply out for personal power and wealth able to fool people so easily.
