Noted Thanks Dandelion for sharing There was really nothing that we didn't already suspect, we saw what happened with the Bush administration and that the war was all lies. I would really like to read this book, it has me very curious now.

Dandelion I don't believe that any Countries politicians are on the level with us, they all have their secrets. The sad part about the lies is all the deaths of the soldiers who served, who didn't have a chance at life. It wasn't only US soldiers but when Afghanistan started Canada fell into the lies and went over as peace keepers but many of them were killed as well. The loss behind the lies is what it should read.

Maybe we do not all the facts but all the news, the coverage, the talks, FB, tweeter, our small country and everyone knowing everyone, it's hard to put one on us. In this case, I think that I do know what is actually going on here in Israel and I think that part of the world, the one that condemns, do not!

Noted and shared. I thought the video was excellent. I shared it widely. I think people do need to hear these things. There are so many lies out there that are told again and again and again. And just like Charles Lewis said, if you tell a lie enough, people will believe it. It's the big lie theory that "people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it." This is where we are today. The lies have been told so many times by so many different seemingly creditable sources that there are many people who believe them. If they can believe the big lies, they can easily believe any other lies told by the same sources. But, once the "big" lie is exposed for a lie, their house of cards or "lies" will soon crumble. The problem is, the "big" lie has not been exposed in a really huge way to that point that those believers of the lie will hear the truth and believe it. People don't like to admit they were duped.

But I thought the best part of the video was the discussion about checks and balances and how we have none. You don't hear a lot of people talking about that. Of course not many people will watch this video either. It's up to all of us who "know" the truth to keep repeating it and getting it out to as many people as possible. Do not just "assume" that everyone knows. There many, many people just going about their lives, day to day, working, eating and sleeping, just trying to make it and I assure you, they don't have a clue what's going on. I mean, they may, and that's a big may, watch the news on television. Well, we just heard them talking about that as well. Most of us know that there is no mainstream media anymore that counts for anything. They're all owned by 5 or 6 mega corporations who decide what the news is and how it will be reported. The book 1984 comes to mind.

Thanks Cheryl for posting this very important video.

"When the rich wage war it's the poor who die" ... "What would happen if they gave a war and nobody came?" .... "Older men declare war, but it is the young who must fight and die" .... "There are causes worth dying for but none worth killing for" ... "Only the dead have seen the end of war" .... "War is what happens when language fails" ..... "Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime".

"They would not listen, they're not listening still ... perhaps they never will"

Examples of TRUTH

At some point you have to face the simple truth that we failed.
Their explanation was simpler but came closer to the truth.
The article explains the truth about global warming.
A reporter soon discovered the truth.
Do you swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
Her story contains a grain of truth but also lots of exaggeration.

Origin of TRUTH
Middle English trewthe, from Old English trēowth fidelity; akin to Old English trēowe faithful — more at true
First Known Use: before 12th century"

So often we are left with only the fidelity (to one's leaders and country) definition when it comes to war when the facts are withheld.

If this is the way the US Administration works how will you ever have a free press and know the whole truth about why the USA follow the policy it does??

War helps nobody, but the big 1%. What would the 1% do without war? They have bought over our governments, and dictate our world.
We as the people have to realize that, and fight against it. All the evil cabals have to be stopped.
Thanks Dandelion.

War is never the answer. I agree with the quote that says war only decides who is left and not who is right. I wish I had an answer as to how to stop this and save the innocents. The fact that children are dying and have no power to stop this breaks my heart. Thanks Sheryl for your thoughts and the video info.

t hand made rockets and hand guns.........yes I too look forward to your explanation????????? "
Well although Giana either didn't listen to the interview or she's commenting by mistake to some other post, but you believe in fairy tales.
Hand made rockets and hand guns. Although thinking about it maybe you're right the population is large enough, (when you consider some are from Iran,) to hand make rockets and hand guns.

As you know, Dandelion, Bill Moyers is always worth hearing. In this case, his guest quietly points out the tragedy of deceit. I think Ben O. above summed it up well: "The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those that speak it" (George Orwell) The right is spewing venom upon the left because it can't tolerate anything disturbing its web of deceit and self-deception. What a sad state of affairs, but we must not stop exposing the truth wherever we can. Thanks for your part, Dandelion, and to all of us who keep on keeping on!

Great interview. Important book. More important is the knowledge of what our government is doing in our name, we, the people. It is ridiculous that anyone should go to jail for telling the truth about our government's activities for which we are ultimately responsible and we who pay the price. It is not the people who committed the atrocities who are harmed but innocent Americans traveling abroad who are hated because of what our government has done behind their backs.

I've said this before and it is one of my core beliefs, if our government cannot conduct its business in the open, in the light of day, in full view, then that business is virtually always something NO ONE should be doing. I came to this belief during the Nixon years when I found out our government was indeed run by a crook and that we were busily propping up right wing dictatorships the world over in our "cold war" with the Soviet Union simply because they would oppose the Soviet Union. As if their death squads did not matter morally to the citizens of the United States. I know they didn't matter to Nixon and Kissinger, but they mattered to ME. Our government is ultimately responsible for its actions to we, the people. And, honestly, I think some ought be answerable to the World Court as well. War criminals are still war criminals even if they hold American citizenship and public office.

What is truly at stake here is our future, our constitutional republic. Because that quote from Proverbs is as true as it was when first written. When there is no vision, the people perish. Or, in another thought, many people, not necessarily Americans, perish. Government should not be allowed to hide its activities behind closed doors or draconian legislation like the Patriot Act, One or Two. Those laws are anything BUT patriotic, they are a betrayal of all we have always believed in and stood for in this country. That the truth is always free and so are the truth tellers. It is why journalism is the unofficial fourth branch of government. Because we cannot trust the other three to be honest in all their doings without watchers. We must have a true system of checks and balances or we live in tyranny. That should be legal, applauded and celebrated, not covered up, imprisoned or destroyed. Anything less is not the America I believe in. It is something far, far less.

Thanks Sheryl for the great interview. I've been a fan of Moyers for awhile but rarely get around to seeing his program. The press should be a check on concentrations of power, as the US founders envisioned, but that's pretty much gone to hell.

Charles Lewis mentions that he had a professional crisis because people tend to believe the false information instead of actual information. That is a tragedy and things would be different if the majority wanted truth more than blind nationalism or whatever else feeds their narcissism. Yes it's true that people are misinformed and lack time to investigate, but still it's just hard to justify some of the horrible crap people support. Imagine if in the US there was the same level of concern regarding the need for and independent media as there is for the "need" for people to have all the guns they want.

Gene Jacobson, i think you're being too generous in saying the US government has propped up dictatorships just because they'd be against the USSR. I don't disagree with what you're saying but it kind of makes it sound like there was some honest choice made, as opposed to doing anything for control of various parts of the world.

War cost us so much in so many ways. The poor get poorer. Humanitarian efforts for seniors and people who are ill, children, education, and things like meals on wheel are thrown aside in favor of trillions for the military complex. Checks and balances haven't worked for this country in a long time. We must repeat the truth more often than they repeat their lies. We cannot give up and let greedy corporations and bought politicians the opportunity to continue their lies. We must challenge their lies every opportunity we get. TY Dandelion, Noted.
