The world's largest salmon fishery could soon be poisoned by toxic mining waste. Canadian mining company wants to build a massive open-pit gold and copper mine in the ecologically-sensitive streams and wetlands that feed into Alaska's pristine Bristol Bay

Signed. I'll never understand why, when people get wealthy, their brains go on vacation so that poisoning a food supply doesn't strike them as what NOT to do. Very strange indeed. Apparently the love of money is the source of all evil.

The idea of a huge mine exposing sulfide and using a tailings dam is appalling.

Signed - well we have stopped several international companies from mining there before, let's hope we can do it again!

Gladly signed and noted, thanks Dandelion. Yes, we just witnessed a huge spill of toxic waste in Canada. We still don't know just how much , the amount keeps climbing upward. ("higher than were first reported", is the innocuous expression these dirty energy corporations like to use when they get caught lying about the extent of the damage they cause.) I hope the EPA will live up to it's name and not cave in to pressure from ' business interests and Republicans in Congress' Boy, is that redundant!. I can't even imagine what 18 square miles of wastewater would do if it ever breached the "pond".

Signed. If nothing else, hopefully the fishing industry will stop this insanity. What would we call it if an individual dumped tons of poison into the water? But somehow it's not considered criminally insane if some corporation is going to make a bunch of money.
