The Robin Hood Tax - Petition

Business  (tags: Robin Hood Tax, Oxfam, tax, relieve poverty, big banks )

Around the world, momentum is building behind a tiny tax on bankers that could generate billions to help with problems at home and overseas. A tiny tax on the transactions of big banks that could deliver billions to help ordinary people and fight poverty.

Is this tax on banks or the people banking with them. I need to clarify that. I will NOT sign for MORE tax on my (ha ha) money. Maybe you in a different country to me, but the amount tax I already pay is bloody ludicrous. They are already bleeding me dry. WHO do you consider poverty stricken? Someone with under a million or the average Joe Blogs on the street ... or the ones the bank is already giving uphill. No I am not rich. Actually I am in shit. I cannot afford to be in DEEPER shit for someone else.

Susan there is lots of information on the petition to answer your questions as well as information on the internet if one were to google Robin Hood Tax. Basically, it's a transaction tax on those who are making the most money in these trades via the computer. The money is made so quickly via these transactions that this tiny tax wouldn't even be noticed by the ones making the most gains.......whereby, those who are hurting a lot would make some gain from it. That gain might help you.

We already have a transaction tax.

That is good Susan, and hope it's working in your Country for those most in need and to help with the ecological issues at hand that each Country is facing.

But for those in Europe and the United States we do not have such a thing. Signing is helping us to gain this as it asks for your Country.

Signed. This is so obviously needed and just! Especially considering that we of course bailed out these banks after they crashed the system by their scheming and gambling with other people's money. In addition to raising money for any number of needs, it would help to dampen the high-speed trading done by computers which only makes the market more erratic and is a way for insiders to suck more money out of the system.

Signed! For far too long the very rich have been getting all the breaks. It's high time that they paid their fair share. If we don't take some of the burden off the middle class and poor, either our economy will collapse entirely, or there will be bloody revolt. Remember how Czarist Russia fell? The 1% need to abandon their ivory towers and face reality.

Thanks Dandelion, gladly signed and noted. Our tax system is positively medieval, the peasants giving the biggest part of their harvest to fill the king's coffers and feed the king's armies so that he can fight to expand his empire---while the peasants and their children starve. We need to change the laws that make Wall Street Bankers the new American Monarchy-with absolute power over the lands they rule!

Oh by the way, when I say peasants I mean that 'tongue-in-cheek'--though with the growing inequality in the U.S. and elsewhere the plutocracy that runs our govt. is creating a new "peasant class"--and I'm one of them.

That is a sad fact Dawn......and that reality must be realized by those who truly have the power to do something about it. There will come a point, when even those who feel they are doing pretty good today will see their sliding backwards.
