Walmart Found To Be Sourcing Bottled Water From Drought Stricken California

Business  (tags: Walmart, Sacramento, public water, private profits )

An investigation in Sacramento found that Walmarts bottled water comes from the Sacramento municipal water supply. Bottling the publics water for private profit is not in the public interest while the public is being asked to cut back on water usage.

Wallmart is so evil , it' ridiculous. I have not shopped at Wallmart in over 10 years, once I found out how badly they treat their employees. If you ever need a laugh, I strongly recommend watching the South Park episode, which was a wicked parody of Wall-Mart titled "Something Wall Mart this Way Comes". It does more to destroy the image of Wall Mart than all of the rest of us have been able to accomplish.
If you haven't seen this parody of Wall Mart, that really shows how evil they are, a brief description of it can be found below :

Some CA things:
Water came in the winter, but it wasn't snowpack, which up here is like 2% of past normal.

Most water is used for almond and cotton.

Sure, too many people.

One Hupa Elder pointed out about the refusal of fed govt to take donw the dams killing salmon on the Klamath, was:
"Potatoes aren't going extinct."

Sure the liquid soaked into groundwater in the mountains, and sure, the drought makes for a long, long fire season.

Are YOU eating almonds, by the way?
something like 98% of the WORLD'S almonds are grown in the Central Valley.
Don't eat 'em don't drink 'em/
My sis had a natural almond tree in her orchard, and I suggest that people settled into a place grow their own stuff, and get the giant growers out of CA.
This state should NOT be supplying most of the US produce, nor most of the US anything. Grow your own.

OOPS. I forgot:
What the hail is ANYONE buying ANYTHING from Walmart for, anyway?

With a water shortage, I suspect some people are buying their water from Walmart that is taking the water they needed to begin with. Talk about adding fuel to the fire.

Well that can be done Kyle IF one has water running out of their tap. We need to be helping each other by not buying the bottle water where we do have water so that those who have limited amounts of water are not having more removed from them.

This is so sinister though, that people might be buying bottled water as their water coming out of their tap is less or no more only to find out they are buying the water that should of been coming out of their tap but isn't because it is other entities that are draining it out and selling it back to them at a higher cost in more ways than one.

We have been not buying bottled water for some time now. And, yes, in my ignorance I thought, also, that the culprit was Nestle.

1. everyone in the U.S. has access to water. Don't even need it for camping because you can use canteens. The only reason for bottling water was for the tap water emergency situations, red cross use and Army, Air force. It was never meant for mass packaging for every store in the U.S. Think of all the plastic that is wasted, fuel wasted delivering it.

Why do people even waste their money by buying bottled water is a mystery to me. We all could do a lot of good for the environment by not buying bottled water if it is from Walmart or somewhere else.
Thank you.

Yes it's completely repugnant, but then who REALLY is to blame? If people STOPPED buying bottled water, then Walmart would be forced to quit selling it, and if gutless California politicians and enforcement agencies made laws to prevent the state being raped in this way, it would stop too. Corporations are just like any other organism, they will do what it takes to survive until what they're doing will kill them. Vote with your dollars and let them starve.

Is it not supposed to be spring water that you buy in Wallmart If it is then they are committing fraud.,and should be prosecuted.. Here in the you U.K. It is known as the parent company of Asda .They are only allowed to sell spring water. To do otherwise would soon cause trouble for them.

Noted, signed earlier--and thanks for all of the news that should be front page newspaper issues, Dandelion--as always. There are too many people on the planet--and way too many in America--Earth's never experienced that issue before---but, historically, what we've learned of the fate of groups who gathered in too large a mass for the amount of land used---after the trees were used up, the other resources followed suit. The Earth has a way of attempting to heal itself. I, for one, forgive her for what she's doing. The only sadness is that, as usual, the innocent suffer and die along with the guilty.

It's not just walmart, it's every store that sells bottled water. Only times i buy a case of water in bottles is for harvest crew if they want water, often there is plenty left over to take with when going to Mexico. I really don't like the taste of bottled water.

I don't buy bottled water ever, and I only go to Walmart if I have no choice, a handful of times a year. I signed Angelika's petition. Walmart might improve their abysmal reputation if they would stop botting and selling this endangered resource. Thanks Dandelion and Angelika.

Um, dandelion, People do NOT buy theri water in bottles when there is a water shortage - they would give enough to walmart to own the earth - which it sort of wants to do.
People buy water bottles because they are afraid of water not in bottles, a lie perpetrated by the COke, Pepsis, Nestles, and others, including Walmarts.
Women buy them for their children because they HAVE TOO MUCH MONEY, and have no sense in their eternal quest for convenience and false safety , which two items have been causing the needless death of innocents for how long...?

If YOU buy premade foods, bottled water, if you buy guns or governments for "safety", you are making that moral wrong continue, YOU are then the killer of innocents.

I saw you plastic along an otherwise pristinge river this morning, your plastic water bottles, which are also on the beach, in the local forests, making you no better than a beer-swilling moron.

One thing in a mile - a water bottle. ther rest were elk, birds, mountain water, footprints of various innocents, wind, .
Water bottle.

My plastic?, I don't buy water in plastic water bottles.....never have Michael. In fact I try to explain to people who do what they are contributing to....for as you say, it was another false bill of goods SOLD to the public by the various Corporations you mentioned that the bottled water was somehow better. In fact, I've placed many times the bottled water they were drinking was in fact worse than what they had coming out of their tap.

Yes, I realize that most people buy water in bottles because of other reasons. However, my point being on this particular instance, was that SOME people most likely were "buying" water from Walmart to offset the water they are being rationed to by the State or those who now find themselves with dry wells. Whereby compounding the situation.

At a time when California faces one of the worst droughts on record, Nestlé is bottling water out of California's springs, aquifers and national forests to sell for profit.

In one case, it has continued pumping and selling water while using a permit that expired over 25 years ago.

Nestlé is unwilling to stop its practice of bottling water, even in drought-stricken areas. It is time for us as consumers to choose tap water over Nestlé water products.

Nestlé owns dozens of common bottled water brands, some that you probably see—and possibly drink—every day.

Sign the pledge by Corporate Accountability International, Daily Kos and Courage Campaign: Choose tap water instead of buying Nestlé water products!
I pledge to choose tap water instead of buying the following Nestlé products: Acqua Panna, Arrowhead, Deer Park, Ice Mountain, Nestea, Nestlé Pure Life, Ozarka, Perrier, Poland Spring, Resource, S. Pellegrino, Sweet Leaf, Tradewinds and Zephyrhills.

Agree Gina, buying bottled water has been the biggest money making scam and depletes water from where it's needed.
