It is estimated that the number of people using food banks will double to over 2 million a year under the £12 billion welfare cuts. Already demand has become so high that many who come to food banks are turned away.

Austerity is a horrible thing, and it needs to be scrubbed off the face of the planet. It has harmed the poor and helpless, and benefited only the wealthy few. In the end, all it can do is keep hurting the common man and woman till they're not going to take any of this crap anymore.

This is what the Tories do every time, the penny wise pound foolish mentality, I had memories of John Major when I was younger indulging in attacking the unemployed and single parents whilst his incompetence resulted in wrecking British agriculture rom the beef heard . All George Osbourne's austerity has done is attacked the poor with Irritable Duncan Syndrome making the unemployed worse of, as for the Health Service it is being sold off to the lowest bid- I think James Naughtie got the Culture secretary name right on this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JpNravrwZc and as for education Michael Gove well here is a good link about him
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWVi4MKSmjo
and here is a link to what he looks like http://plashingvole.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/the-educational-fish-rots-from-head.html
Also here is a final link about the David Cameron regime https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ml-cTjDPtUk
Anyway why England allowed such a bunch of scumbags to have a majority is a mystery but then the SNP are only going to be a gadfly to their plans which is a pity.

Seems as though those in the U.K. are suffering from the same greedy conservatism that Canada and the U.S. are! VOTE!

Noted. Thanks, Dandelion.
Well, I'm glad to know that at least there is a big protest planned. It is well past time for the pendulum to start swinging back in favor of the 99%.

Thanks for this article Dandelion, it speaks truth, unfortunately.

As you probably know, when people want to puff up our consequence in the UK, they point out that we are one of the oldest democracies in the world. That being so, how come that only 24% of the electorate voted for the tories?

For that I blame every party - for as soon as one of them gets a sniff of power, they don't want to change the system (except the Lib Dems - but their grasp of political campaigning is sadly pathetic) - and start bleating on about how changing the system to proportional representation would mean sharing government would mean 'a coalition' and how that would be 'disastrous' - if so how is Germany one of the best performing democracies in the world, since WWII they have almost always had coalition governments - they make it work wonderfully, as do others.

Sounds corrupt to me.
