This is one of the harsh realities in US prisons, is that very small infractions can land someone in solitary for months if not years and decades. Solitary confinement for prolonged periods of time is "torture" and this needs to stop being a practice within this Country.

Please either click onto the hyperlink within the story to go to the petition or you can access the petition below.
Sign the petition to stop the government from torturing Chelsea Manning with indefinite solitary confinement

No matter what you feel about the reason she was convicted and sentenced or if you are not supportive of transgendered or confused by it. She is still a human being and this is very wrong.....solitary confinement for long periods of time. This is a human rights issue.

Gladly signed and noted, I hope if enough of us sign petitions, we can help Chelsea avoid solitary. She is a national hero to many of us!

This suggests the petition, now at 64,109 and even if it reaches desired 75k, might not be much of a help:
BREAKING UPDATE: With just two days left before she has to present her defense in front the disciplinary board, prison staff are now denying Chelsea access to the facility's legal library.
This military judicial system hasn't a thing to do anymore with rule of law or a constitutional state.

When they are out to "get" you in this Country and make an "example" of you it is awful hard no matter how many people try to help to offer some relief to your situation. But as a people of conscience we must always speak out and do our best to try.

Look at Leonard Peltier, flimsy to no evidence, a mockery of a trial, the Government hiding documents, facts so on and so forth. He was the "example" to other American Indians; shut down AIM and shut your mouths. Get back onto your reservations and endure your poverty, your fate, your nothingness and be good little Indians and die quickly and quietly so there will be no more "Indian" problem.

Look at Herman Wallace and Albert dare they stand up for the rights of the African American people and so Herman stayed in solitary confinement for decades until he was at deaths door and they are still keeping Albert in despite what a recent court ruling said.

That Bradley Manning did what he/she did and now on top of it has transgendered to Chelsea well gives them all the more reason to be hateful.

Well, yes, speaking out, and that is exactly what we're doing here, have been doing, even if it has no other effect than showing solidariy with the respective victims of such incredible injustice!
As opposed to animal welfare/rescue petitions, the majority of which may also not reach the desired effect/solution, these incarcerated people DO and CAN hear and feel our solidarity, while mistreated animals cannot.

I'm really delighted to have this particular update. Things can be so harsh over here in the USA. But with enough eyes, even the USA can smooth itself out a bit. Thanks Angelika for the update link on here. I posted it onto C2.
