Top 1 Percent Own More Than Half of Worlds Wealth

Far from demonstrating the health of the US economy, this disproportionate growth of the super-rich resembles the spread of a cancer that is rapidly metastasizing, with fatal consequences for the entire social organism.

These disparities between countries, like the growing social disparities within countries, have immense significance for world politics.

US imperialism uses both its preeminent military position and the role of the dollar, still the world’s main reserve currency, as weapons in seeking to offset its economic decline relative to its major rivals.

America is both a social powder keg, with class tensions at home approaching the breaking point, and the most destabilizing force in world politics, seeking to maintain its position of global dominance by increasingly reckless and militaristic methods.

To combat this inequality.....whereby the USA is the largest slice and the billionaires within that slice you need this.

The word "imbalance" springs to mind. . . how this can possibly considered as healthy is beyond common sense. . .

I've known about this stat for a while now, I don't know how long it has been true, or don't remember, but what it is, is just one of the most obscene miscarriages of natural law justice I've ever been witness too. How did we, as a WORLD, ever let things get so horribly askew? This is what wealth inequality means. This is what politicians who talk about changing it mean. It is simply morally wrong that this situation exists. I don't care about who owns what or contributes what, there is no justification for 1% of the people essentially controlling the lives of the rest of us. Upon such imbalances in the past, revolutions have been based. And will again, if this is not corrected somehow.

Noted. Thanks for posting, Dandelion.
So, if nearly half of the wealthiest live in the U.S., I guess they are pleased with our tax laws; otherwise they'd live in another country. It makes no sense that they are screaming that their taxes are too high and they want them lowered further. All part of a calculated movement by the wealthiest to just take more and more while the rest of us have less and less.
Raise taxes on the wealthiest and lower taxes for the rest of us. Get rid of the loopholes for individuals and corporations. And raise the Estate Tax----it was greatly reduced recently.

Some words come to mind here, this is NOT SUSTAINABLE. In the entire scheme of things, the imbalance, injustice, unfairness, all need Major Overhaul== NOW!!! It's high time the wealthy step up and pay their fair share and stop the greedy behavior. Thank you so much Sheryl & Patricia for the link!!~

As many have already said, this just can't continue. It is both infuriating and frightening. All of this teetering world economy is based on debt, which must keep escalating. We are all slaves to this debt, to the Banks and corporate elites, and sooner or later, something has to give.

46% of these billionaires and multi millionaires live in the USA and yet even for their own people scream we don't have enough money to invest within the Country.

They have their mouthpieces screaming in DC we don't have enough to spare to allow roads to be repaired or prevent bridges from falling into rivers, we don't have enough for public schools. They scream we don't have enough to share with Elders and Disabled of whom they keep trying to slice into the already paltry funds while health costs go up for those same people. They say we don't have enough to take care of the Veterans they send off to wars and they yell we certainly don't have enough to feed the poor....let them starve.

They claim they just don't have enough but look at this chart. How much more do they need? Indeed the time is coming either fixed this in an organized way or the people around the world we be taking matters into their own hands. That is not always a good way because one never knows whose hands it lands into so is best to do it in some sort of orderly fashion.

Let us eat cake? The deck is stacked against us, the fix is in. We need to stop dancing to their tune by becoming proactive and demanding a fundamental change in the system that enables this inequity.

Maybe we should allow a lot of French to immigrate to the US.....not sure they'd want to come though.

It's as if the Global Financial Crisis didn't happen. . . that crisis needs to be FELT by these rich and wealthy people, otherwise the obvious completely unhealthy and topsy-turvy situation will just increase.

I wasn't thinking so much of the "storming of the Bastille" more the uproar that happenend in France in 1968.I remember that even the Americans had fire in their belly to end the Vietnam war.

You need to find that again and build on the Occupy's ideas.

I don't know what happened to a generation or so. Yes, we had fire in our spirits, many of us older ones still do, in our Bernie Sanders group it appears to be two ways, us older ones from the sixties and early seventies, and the youth, teens, twenties, early 30's.....missing big is in the middle.

We can't keep protecting these too big to fail Darren, for I recall that the one's who created the mess in the Great Depression jumped out of windows, this time they got bailed out and received "golden parachutes". Iceland is at least sending some to jail and didn't expect the poor to pay for their gambling. I was going to put the story on today but BMutiny got to it before me.

The metastasizing super rich.Send them to Boot Camp! (The challenge comes as much from the difficulty of physical training as it does from the required quick psychological adjustment to an unfamiliar way of life, lol).
