Replace the Death Penalty! - Petition

In the United States, more than 4 percent of current death row inmates have been wrongly convicted. The risk of executing even ONE innocent person is reason enough to end a barbaric practice

I think all rapers should be killed, it is the worst crime in my opinion. They don't deserve to live and, they still are wasting our resources while alive in jail or not.

Melanie although I understand that people have various passions on why they feel the death penalty should be used, you feel rape, someone else may feel only for murderers, or just for serial killers, there are countries that give the death penalty for having drugs or for burning a particular book, or for saying words that they feel offend them or their gods or special entities. What I'm saying, as long as the death penalty is there, it can always be abused and misused.

I don't want the State killing anyone in MY name. It is blood on MY hands. As a member of the State I can not exclude myself from the State or the Country. I can protest it, but ultimately, the person was put to his or her death by the members of that State or Country......meaning all of us who belong to that Country.

Perhaps we should think about those willing to do the corporal punishment but I highly doubt that most of the people could or would want to do that. Would you personally execute all the rapist in this Country. It would require looking them in the eye and taking the last breath from them. But even then it would have to be an agreement by the people of the Country that you execute all rapists, so in essence I'd still be giving my permission.

Most major religions say "Thou Shall Not Kill".......I'm not of any of the major religions but from my limited understanding......did the book give exceptions to that rule?

We are all entitled to our opinions and thank goodness for that! We need to continue the fight for our voices and I don't believe that it was now or ever my right to silence any voice. Execution is the ultimate silencing and you know where I stand on the death penalty. I'm glad that US states are one by one outlawing this and hopefully the entire country will be obigated to dismiss the practice.
As for some other countries, as Dandelion says, many are killed for no reason, having no proof of crime, or political pleasure. So much work to do...

Worldwide, 94 countries still have capital punishment in their lawbooks, and 37 of them currently perform executions:

Of the 54 African countries, 36 have the death penalty, and 11 of them currently execute people (Botswana, Chad [only for terrorism], Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Libya, Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan).
Of the 35 American countries, 19 have the death penalty, but only 2 of them (the United States and St. Kitts & Nevis) currently execute people, while the others are regarded as abolitionists or as de-facto abolitionists.
Of the 57 Asian-Pacific countries, 37 currently have the death penalty, and 23 of them still execute people (Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, China [not in Hong Kong and Macao], India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Malaysia, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Yemen). Most executions worldwide take place in Asia.
Of the 49 European countries, only 1 (Belarus) still has the death penalty and executes people.
