Native American Activist Leonard Peltier Imprisoned 40 Years Prepared To Die There

For him, the question of his guilt or innocence is no longer relevant. Whether people believe I did or did not do it, the fact remains I have served 40 years, he said. Many, including Judges believe he did not receive a fair trial and was railroaded.

For some of you the story of Leonard Peltier is a long and familiar one. However, there are still people who are just learning about Leonard Peltier. This is a quick brief of who he is and why he is in prison. It is suggested to know a lot more one should watch the movie INCIDENT AT OGLALA

If so moved and if you have not already done so could you please sign the following petitions. Thanks

I had signed ---but noted and wonder why, all things considered, Obama and others before him, did not and seem to not be pardoning him---freeing him. Guess he must still be a favorite target and a means of keeping the Indigenous spirits low---and in their place. It is obscenely corrupt, unnecessarily cruel and obvious. Thanks Dandelion.

Janice every time a President is leaving office the FBI stages big rallies to not free Leonard Peltier. With the 30 years of "tough on crime" no President wants to touch this one. Other clemency drop below the radar and so that is it, but for Leonard it would have a lot of attention.

Attention on one side that would finally be thrilled but that would mean the FBI and other who still want his blood would also be given the limelight. It's unfortunate that his celebrity status, as is mentioned in article is actually something that may of gone against him. The damned if you do damned if you don't.

At this point, with the wave of sentiment across this Country that our system of justice has been overly harsh and the fact Leonard has served 40 years under questionable evidence and is a very sick man older man, I should think have some bearing on this matter. A President could use that "mercy" to offset any negative that might arise.

If he dies in prison, as Freya said, negative energies will arise from that.......many things need to happen for a healing to take place, his release would be one part of the overall healing, otherwise you've made him a martyr.

I guess the genocide of the American Indian was,nt quite enough. Always room for a little more injustice especially when it comes to mis treatment of the tribes. Let him go free.

Thanks Sheryl .I signed the petitions some time ago along with others .Some aspects of your judicial system are anything but just . How could you leave an innocent man in prison for so long without reviewing his case and granting him a retrial? If this was to happen in my country and it became public knowledge there would be calls for a royal commission .

The

PETITIONS

Are In the Top Comment.

You can't Arild, give him back those years, however we can give him the peace of not dying behind the cold steel bars but instead be surrounded by his family and friends who love him.

There should be something done Walter, and we've had Judges who have ruled that he should receive a new trial or be released but they keep being ignored or over-ruled. There is no JUSTICE in this Country we ARE a Banana Republic. If they catch you in the web unless enough people speak up louder this continues.

Thanking all who wrote to the President and signed petitions here and along the way. MB as to what you say, Bernie has his hands tied too. As Senator from the State of Vermont he has no jurisdiction over where Leonard is staying today. I'm sure, if he made an appeal on behalf of the Prisoners in Ireland I'm sure he has spoken out or written concerning this. If he was President then he could offer Leonard Clemency and I have absolutely NO DOUBT that he would. It is another reason to vote for Leonard Peltier and I'm sure the Native people understand that.

America seems built on the injustices and exploitation of others.

I sympathize with you all who support Leonard Peltier. If Obama can open trade negotiations with Iran and Vietnam, than he can sure as hell pardon and release someone like Leonard Peltier.

Petitions signed. I wish Obama would do this before he leaves, at least as something to make himself look good. But Obama isn't one to rock the boat. If Leonard Peltier dies in prison, then he will have shone a bright light on the injustice and cruelty of the US system, and in some way helped prevent such horrible injustice in the future.

A lot of people had high hopes that Bill Clinton was going to do it - that was when most people still thought a Democrat and Bill Clinton was someone who could do no wrong, who even lied under oath.

Taking what is a known wrong that someone in a leadership position or boss type role should never make sexual advances on another that is below him in status. He was older and as President had the highest status there was, it was in every book wrong.

Not to mention he dishonored his own daughter and her Mother. The latter should of spoken out a lot more clearly, if she was the champion of women that she claims she is.

I knew then that he had little moral character to his personhood; so I never expected he'd do the correct thing by Leonard Peltier and with Obama, I agree he doesn't want to rock the boat. He has played their game well, the ones who pull the strings.

Thank you Dandelion, for HONORING Leonard Peltier in this thread. I'm devastated to admit I just spent a good hour sharing my knowledge and heartfelt feelings about Mr. Peltier and accidentally deleted it. BIG SIGH. I am forever indebted to you for bringing him and his life in strife, to our awareness. Rather than try to re-compose will just say a couple of words. YOU know how I feel about him and that's all that matters right now.

“I was at Pine Ridge that day. I did exchange fire with the authorities who were shooting at us — but I didn’t kill those agents,” Peltier told the Daily News during a visit last week to his high-security facility."

“Of course I feel remorse,” he added. “Nobody should have died that day, the whole thing should never have happened. It was a terrible tragedy.”

"His refusal to admit guilt has a price. His prior parole requests were denied for that reason."

“I’ve given the same answer for 40 years. I didn’t do it and I won’t say that I did. I won’t betray my people like that, I won't betray my culture,” said the activist."

It takes a remarkably HONORABLE MAN to sacrifice Family and Friends as well as a lifetime of Freedom by not playing into the system, which is taking a lesser charge by admitting guilt. I would go to my death before sacrificing my SOUL and I respect and admire that of Leonard Peltier more than words can express. He's got impeccable integrity and SOUL, which is what we should all aspire to. My Heart cries if President Obama doesn't do the RIGHT THING...Please, let his last days be with Loved Ones, while painting, breathing the fresh air while in the infinity Beauty of Earth's Mother.

I watched Incident at Oglala yesterday. It was extremely informative and I can't believe he was found guilty of 2 lifetimes. The "girlfriend", whom had never known him, was illegal grounds to extradite him, but with the obvious contradicting statements I can't believe they stuck. So many inconsistencies I don't need to meantion as you already know. I posted to FB, hoping it will be received well. I also posted petitions to Free Leonard, and was pleased that 2 people told me they weren't knowledgeable about him, and were grateful to learn. Passing on messages that they were both VERY angry.
