This was only about 40 miles away from me - however these acts have happened all over the USA far too frequently. Nowhere is spared. We also have people in other Countries being blown up and shot, in Turkey, in France, in Lebanon, the list is too long to mention all and growing how many people around this world is suffering from violence.

Is why I chose the photo more love less hate. May the world's human family move from continued violence to caring and loving each other. We all win that way.

To any family member that may come across this link - I'm truly sorry for your loss - words will never take a deep pain away I know, but it's my feeble attempt to offer something to you.

Please be respectful on this thread - let us use it to reach out to anyone that is hurting from a loss or may have someone in the hospital still fighting for their life.

The fact that SOME people think and operate as diseased, sick, deranged individuals, doesn't mean the rest of us have to. . . carry around an attitude and you spread it.

JL A added this to another thread I'll post it here as well:

Many of our supporters from across the country have reached out, and asked how they can help from afar. There are local organizations who need our help to continue providing resources like grief counseling, and healthcare for survivors. Here is how they help, and how you can help:

The Zebra Coalition has opened up a hotline to provide counseling. If you or someone you know needs this service, please call (407) 822-5036 and press #1 to speak to someone. You can donate to the Zebra Coalition to help it continue to provide this service by clicking here.

The GLBT Community Center of Central Florida is providing grief counseling, in both English and Spanish. If you or someone you know needs this service, the address is 946 N. Mills Avenue in Orlando. You can donate to the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida to help it continue to provide this service by clicking here.

Equality Florida is our state’s largest LGBT advocacy organization. They have set up a GoFundMe page for victims. You can donate to this fund by clicking here. You can also donate directly to Equality Florida to help it continue to fight for LGBT equality in Florida by clicking here.

Thank you for standing shoulder-to-shoulder with us. #LoveWins.

I am still crying. I cannot fathom such hatred for people they do not personally know. This could have been my son and he is a caring, kind man who works hard and has many friends in all communities. My heart is breaking for everyone who has lost a child, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, best friend and spouse. We must work harder to make sure that this never happens again.

My heart is breaking too Beth....none of these massacre's have ever been easy, I'm still reeling from the little children in Conn. let alone all the rest, however this one hit close to home for me as I don't live too far away.

I'm an older woman now, and when I was young it would of never entered my mind that one day what is going on would be taking place. That my adult children and my grandchildren have many years ahead is this what it will always be or worse? Wondering if they are watching a movie, at a dance or even going to school that by the mere fact they did they became a target.

Thank you Dandelion for this touching story.
If only there would be peace and love everywhere. I'm so sorry this was so near you as it must have been quite hard to take. I was born and raised in Florida and also was shocked since I can't remember any violence happening there so abhorrent as this. How awful that it should happen anywhere. These were human beings celebrating life. Something many people forget to do. showing their thanks for living one more day in our world. One that showed its love for people of all different beliefs. It was wonderful to see so much caring as far as Paris lighting up the Eiffel tower in rainbow colors. showing that there is love for people of all sorts. lets all do this eery day and get along as one.

Yes, not to lessen the deep anguish born of the many massacres and random drive-by murders in this country, the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre that occurred in Dec 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut, took a lot out of me. It shook me profoundly, down deep to the core of this incarnation.

Thank you for the links, D. And thank you all for sharing your kind words during this period of mourning.

Thanks for adding this story, Dandelion.
FACTS:(1) 23 of the49 listed dead o far were Puerto Ricans or second generation.
(2) That very same day, Puerto Ricans were celebrating their parade in New York with Pedro Julio Serrano as the guest of honor. He is a very well known and respected LGBTT activist but also supports many other causes such as freedom for Oscar Lopez Rivera. (3) Within hours or single days of separation, ALL THREE BRANCHES of US GOVERNMENT had made landmark decisions on Puerto Rico's political status vis a vis USA, declaring it a COLONY without any independent powers to decide any single thing. The main purpose of all this is to install a JUNTA to oversee and rule over the government of Puerto Rico in order to make us pay the enormous public debt to the bond holders which they (the USA Government) encouraged the Puerto Rico Government to incur with the aide of some very corrupt politicians here so that our island could be used as a mirror against Socialist Cuba. (5) The contractor company who employed the murderer for NINE YEARS was one of the leading security firms for USA agencies contracts, including Homeland Security. (6) The FBI claimed it had given some kind of attention to this man but it led them nowhere. The FBI is PROBABLY lying. They murdered Filiberto Ojeda, 2005, are suspects in Cerro Maravilla double murders in 1978, protect the murderers and are suspects in the murders of Santiago Mari Pesquera, 1976 and Carlos Muniz Varela, 1979. They kept political dossiers on indpendentistas and oversaw many of their activities including college students. This is the short list. You can google all this. This is the TRUTH!!! Is Orlando just a coincidence???I don't have the answer, just the questions.

Heartbreaking. So many vital young lives needlessly cut short in their prime. ENOUGH! We activists need to push hard at the grass-roots level to stop these senseless acts of violence. Let's start with the do-nothing Congress and their ridiculous "moments of silence" for the victims - that's the problem! They've been silent too long! Especially you, Senate "Leader" Mitch McConnell with your "A" rating from the National Rifle Association. I loathe you and your ilk. I hold you directly responsible for this horrible massacre and all the others before it. Shame on you all!

Mitch McConnell and the others that receive an A or B rating from the NRA need to be personally contacted.

Where Congress Stands on Gun Control

I couldn't find a current list, this is 3 years old, so some might have left office or a new one in. Most likely it is pretty accurate. See where your Representative is for a rating with the NRA even push the one's on the fence with a C.

Most of the more recent links on Google, Dandelion, refer back to that 2013 article.

I would wager that since Congress is Republican majority controlled that they have a Pro-Gun stance, but that is perhaps being measured with more background checks.

As it stands, that position is contentious, given the continued gun violence we're seeing.

As Sheryl posted, Discovery Church in Orlando, Florida offers free funerals to families of Orlando victims.
Also, this, Free flights for the families:
Good to see Communities coming together in this way, showing solidarity with Families.

We NEARLY had such an incident, at a popular Gay nightclub here in Seattle! On New Years, the place was PACKED with dancers, same as in Orlando. A guy came in a back door and poured gasoline in a stairwell, then lit a fire! Someone, one of the customers, REALLY ALERT spotted smoke and the fire and reacted FAST and smothered it out! before it could spread... And his partner, meanwhile, GOT EVERYBODY OUT thru CLEARLY-MARKED EXITS - nobody panicked - and there wasn't a SINGLE loss of life or even any harm to anyone! [except to the stairwell itself]. The perp was seen on surveillance footage with the gas can and was identified. This was NEARLY A HOLOCAUST, a very near thing! There have been other tragic packed-nightclub fires..... accidents or "revenge"-type things.
I am worried that GAY CLUBS may become the [obvious, easy] Target of Choice for hate-filled Fundamentalists of any religion.......

The victims ranged in age from 18 [!] to 50.... and ALL were loved, were essential, vital participants in their communities.... in their families, at work, among circles of friends.... All would have made wonderful contributions, besides what they were already doing.....
Many of them, or their parents, came from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico, Dominican Republic - it WAS Latino Night, after all! Also African-Americans and people who appear they may be mixed-race.... A true reflection of what America is now. From all economic categories. And "straight" people too! A true reflection of the Gay Community..... it extends WAY beyond just sexuality or gender expression.

Dozens of people waited two-to-three hours at Realm Tattoos to get one of the recently drawn "One Pulse" tattoos etched into their skin. The tattoos are free, but people are encouraged to leave a donation for the victims, which will be distributed by Southern Nights, another Orlando nightclub.

Jonathan Betancourt, 36, the shop's owner, said he was surprised at how fast the community came together in such a short time.
