Clinton appointee Wendy Sherman, a lobbyist who effectively sells access to government officials, accused BDS and the UN of “creat[ing] anti-Semitism.”

Former congressman turned lobbyist Howard Berman framed opposition to Israel’s occupation as “one-sided” and suggested that Palestinians bear some responsibility for Israel’s illegal conduct.

Bonnie Schaefer, former joint-CEO of the jewelry chain Claire’s Stores, didn’t even bother addressing the issues raised in the amendment. Instead, she engaged in pinkwashing.

“As a gay Jewish Zionist, Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East, as we all know, the only place in the Middle East that I can walk down the street with my wife hand in hand and not be afraid,” Schaefer said.

A Clinton supporter and major donor to the Democratic Party, Schaefer was named to the committee by the DNC.

Zogby fired back, while “you can go and walk down the street of Tel Aviv holding the hand of your wife, I can’t get in the airport without seven hours of harassment because I’m of Arab descent.”

“We have to be able to call it what it is. It’s an occupation that humiliates people, that breeds contempt, that breeds anger and despair and hopelessness, that leads to violence,” Zogby added.

Civil rights activist and celebrated public intellectual Cornel West, an outspoken supporter of BDS appointed by Sanders, expressed outrage.

“When the IDF [Israeli army] kills innocent people, over 500 babies in 51 days, no matter how many shields they say Hamas uses, it’s wrong,” said West, referring to Israel’s summer 2014 attack on Gaza.

The “Democratic Party must tell the truth,” West implored. “We can never fully respect the Palestinians unless we can name … the boot on their necks.”

“I come from a people who’ve been hated,” West added, drawing an analogy between the long history of denying the horrors inflicted on African Americans and the refusal to recognize the oppression of Palestinians.

“[If] we can’t say a word about [Trans-Pacific Partnership], if we can’t talk about Medicare for all explicitly, if the greatest prophetic voice dealing with impending ecological catastrophe can hardly win a vote and if we can’t even acknowledge occupation as something that’s real in the lives of a slice of humanity … it just seems to me there’s no way in good conscience I can say take it to the next stage,” West said.

“I have to abstain. I have no other moral option, it would be a violation of my own limited sense of moral integrity and spiritual conscience,” he added. “That’s how I roll.”

So sad that Clinton's surrogates are unwilling to state that they support the UN decisions and international law and what Obama's administration just publicly reaffirmed--does not bode well for human rights nor peace in the Middle East with a Clinton presidency.

All those discrepancies already showing at that drafting sessions reflect what you will get after a HRC election! Don't say you didn't know or weren't told! No matter if they alter the semantics, make some promises, the actions and politics afterward will be exactly as these points were before any agreements and possible further agreements. i.e. OBJECTED.

DNC Platform Leaves Door Open for No-Fly Zone in Syria, Refuses to Call for End to Israeli Occupation.

The Democratic National Committee’s Platform Drafting Committee quashed efforts by the Bernie Sanders campaign last week to insert language in the platform opposing a U.S.-led no-fly zone in Syria and calling for an end to Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories.

The deliberations, which took place in St. Louis last week as part of a multi-step process to write the party’s nonbinding platform, represent a tilt to a more hawkish direction for Democrats under presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton. The final platform will not be written until the convention in Philadelphia next month – a process that could possibly open it to votes from a much wider pool of delegates on the floor.

Arab American Institute President Jim Zogby, a Sanders appointee to the platform committee, explained that he was introducing an amendment that would, in part, read: “To this end, the Democratic Party does not support direct U.S. military intervention against the Assad regime, including the imposition of no-fly zones or safe zones.”

This is also the current position of President Barack Obama, who while bombing ISIS units in Syria has rejected direct strikes against the Syrian government, saying that “we have learned over the last 10, 12, 13 years is that unless we can get the parties on the ground to agree to live together in some fashion, then no amount of U.S. military engagement will solve the problem.”

Zogby’s amendment faced opposition from a number of Clinton appointees to the committee. “I don’t think we should define such decisions for the future president,” said Wendy Sherman, a former senior State Department official. “I strongly urge that we oppose this amendment.”

Former California Democratic Congressman Howard Berman, another Clinton appointee, also joined in opposition. “I don’t think the platform looking at, and if it makes sense, pursuing that option,” he said of the no-fly zone.

In the face of this opposition, Zogby withdrew the amendment.

Sanders’s team also introduced an amendment to the draft platform’s text on Israel and Palestine. The amendment affirmed U.S. support for Israel and the two-state solution, but also asked for the deletion of language condemning the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions campaign and affirming an “undivided” Jerusalem.

The amendment also called for giving Palestinians “an end to occupation and illegal settlements so that they may live in independence, sovereignty, and dignity,” as well as rebuilding Gaza.

“We have an opportunity here to send a message to the world … that America hears the cries of both sides. That America wants to actually move people towards a real peace.” Zogby said, explaining that Sanders was personally involved in the writing of this amendment.

“It is an occupation, occupation is evil,” academic Cornel West, a Sanders appointee, retorted, insisting that the Sanders camp only wanted both sides to be treated equally.

The Sanders campaign, however, did not ask for references to Palestinian terrorism or delegitimizing Israel to be deleted.

Philanthropist Bonnie Schaefer, who was appointed to the committee by the DNC, protested the language. “As a Jew, as a gay Jew, a Zionist, Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East as we all know. The only place in the Middle East where I can walk down the street with my wife, hand in hand, and not be afraid,” she said.

Shortly before it was voted on, Zogby made one final plea.

“You can go and walk down the street of Tel Aviv holding the hand of your wife. I can’t get in the airport without seven hours of harassment because I’m of Arab descent,” Zogby said, addressing Schaefer’s comments. “The treatment of people of Arab descent just going there is discriminatory, the people who live there suffer horrific discrimination. We have to be able to call it what it is. It’s an occupation that humiliates people.”

The amendment was voted down five to eight. Only Sanders’s appointees voted for it.

I already signed the petitions listed but thanks for adding them here so others might sign. Seems to be a big lack of Hillary supporters coming to find out what is truly going on, don't get any Trump supporters. Pickings from the C2 membership are small - the rest are non political and just do animals.

Sigh.....I have no wonder that the wheels of change move slowly even with great urgency looking at people in the face.

Signed the petitions. Hillary and her 1% elitist ruling force backers, supporters, surrogates, are outright evil and the root of the ongoing devastation of Earth and all living. Again, for those who have contacted me asking what should they do in Nov.--I say this--do vote. Don't ever give up any Constitutional rights, even when you realize that the election is a rigged ruse.

I studied the situation and decided that if Bernie is not on the docket, I won't write him in, as it won't count. To have my vote count and to elevate the Green Party, I'll vote for Dr. Jill Stein. She and Bernie admire each other and if either of them was by some merciful miracle elected, they'd be Earth's salvation.

I do see fewer Hillary and Trump supporters here on Care2. I should think so, as the bulk of folks who choose to gather here, are of like mind---they want to do what they can to save what's left of Earth and all living. The most popular petitions are those trying to correct critical environmental and wildlife issues. Also, socioeconomic, agricultural, human and women's rights issues, political issues, the removal of corruption in the globe's entire machinery, peace, spiritual topics. All members seem to be peacemakers.

You'd think C2 members wouldn't and couldn't aid and abet those at the root of our most critical problems, by voting them right back into the system. Thanks Dandelion, for your ongoing remarkable and diversified work on this site. You're a rare and lovely force of nature that enlightens and elevates. Now and then, you just have to take the compliments, as they are truth.

Washington state does not require me to declare party affiliation as a registered voter. But, I have lived in states that did require it. So, when I would go register, I would register as a Democrat. This was primarily because of Robert F. Kennedy. With few exceptions, I would vote for candidates who were Democrats without even looking at their history or how they have voted previously. But, this time it is different. While I did not particularly like Hillary Clinton when she was First Lady, I have learned a lot about her over the past many months. She and I are not on the same page when it comes to the issues which affect all Americans. Hillary supports regime change around the world. I do not. Personally, I like Bernie's proposal regarding the Israel/Palestine conflict.

I am willing to wait until the Democratic convention later this month to see what happens. A miracle could happen and Bernie could persuade the superdelegates to vote for him. However, the campaign called Never Trump is trying to get voters to absolutely fear Donald Trump so much that they will vote for Hillary in order to keep Trump out of the White House.

However, if you have ever seen some of the videos of Trump's campaign speaking tours, you would wonder if he's been taking notes at Bernie's campaign rallies. When it comes to the lesser evil, who would that be? On some things, it very well could be Donald Trump. But, why vote for the lesser evil, when you can vote for the greater good? If Bernie Sanders is not the nominee come November, then I would encourage you to learn more about Dr. Jill Stein of the Green Party and consider voting for her.

It's not necessary to vote blue no matter who; because, it should matter. The Green Party is working hard to get Jill Stein's name on the general election ballots in all the states. So, if she is on the ballot where you live, vote for Jill Stein.

Noted. Thanks for posting, Dandelion.
I am both angered and saddened by those on the Platform Committee (Clinton & DNC appointees), who choose the side of the harshness & money of Establishment Politics. This is not a "democratic" platform. It could've been written by any 'centrist' party. It continues to bow to the old ways of being stuck in the mud.

And, I am constantly impressed with Dr. West and his abstention of voting on moral grounds.
This Platform stinks to high heaven. As it stands, the Dems are at the top of my list to be removed from my life. I'm going to stick with the Progressive Democrats for awhile, and hope they push to break from the rest of the party.

Thanks for missing all the nuances of the motions "shot down." For example, Clinton favors an Oregon model for minimum wage - scaled by cost of living so small town businesses don't go under while expensive cities get higher ($15/hr) wages. And BDS IS anti-Semitism - ask the pro-Palestinian factions that endorsed it. Israel's policies are bad, but BDS and all the neo-Nazi praise that goes with it is equally wrong.

Anywhere in the USA should be able to pay $15 an hour. If a business can not pay a living wage then they are not to be in business. They were able to pay living wages in the past, I recall shopping in many of them, so did my parents, the businesses were there for years.

What we need to get rid of is the small businesses having to compete against the Big Box stores that have overtaken and overpowered the truly small businesses. Towns need to keep them out, people need to shop and support their small businesses and avoid whenever possible the Big Box stores. Bit by bit we can bring a better life back - but don't expect anyone to work 40 hours a week and still be in poverty. Shameful it is even a consideration for some to ask this of another to do.

The protestant faith community is divesting from companies involved in violence and human rights violations, which is what the BDS movement is all about...some are beginning to realize occupation in violation of international agreements are also human rights violations and taking a position to oppose that as well. There is nothing anti about it other than anti human rights violations. Many voices in the Jewish community, especially faith communities, also agree because it violates the Torah just like it violates the Bible. Palestinians are also Semites--there is nothing anti-Semitic about it--there is a key distinction between country's actions and people that most of us recognize.

What was shot down on minimum wage was ensuring it would go up with cost of living increases built in and not be many years in the future when it will no longer be a living wage in even the lowest cost of living places in the country. It is insufficient for high cost of living places and why such states would be increasing it in their jurisdictions.

Working full-time at $15 an hour is gross pay of $2500 per month--or $1600 to $1700 take home pay.
it has gone up since this article:
"In California, the fair market rent (as determined by U.S. Housing and Urban Development) for a two-bedroom apartment is $1,341 a month. In order to afford this level of rent and utilities, without paying more than 30 percent of income on housing, a household must earn $4,469 monthly or $53,627 annually. "

JL A - thanks lot for these additional links; will spread them among my private friends for sure!!

As for BDS: how can anyone claim to be a normal human being with a normal sense of justice and condone in today's time - Apartheid; military Occupation of foreign land and people; exploiting and disenfranchise the indigenous people; condone and accept extrajudicial killings; bombing and using BC weapons against innocent civilians; robbery, rape and theft of foreign land and aquifers ... and on top of it cry victim all the time?! Why do some folks have such difficulties in understanding that human rights are for ALL people and not just for a few chosen ones (pun intended).

Human Rights are NOT negotiable especially if and where it concerns the State of Israel or Jewish people ... and it works both ways!!

Going back once more to that part of the posts' headline where it concerns Palestine, or, in the broader sense Israel, specifically US-Israel relations and policy:
If you equate "Democrats" with Hillary and need any further proof how literally she means her commitment "I'll be the better president for Israel" (might exclude being the better president for the USA, as both is kind of difficult!) then have a look at one of her early emails!

We've seen a lot regarding her vile role in the Libya intervention but much less about her role for Syria.
Read it here: ** https://foia.state.gov/search/results.aspx?searchText=C05794498&beginDate=&endDate=&publishedBeginDate=&publishedEndDate=&caseNumber **

This is from spring 2012 and shows her playbook for a US military intervention in Syria, the plan then actually precisely implemented! All for the benefit and interest of ISRAEL, -to the obvious DISADVANTAGE of the US!- thus even undermining Obama's effort to get the Iran nuclear deal completed for which the talks were already underway at that time! Fortunately that effort failed eventually!

That is who she is and that is what you must expect being continued on a broader level should she win the WH ! That's why the platform rejected any concessions and acknowledgments re Israel-Palestine and will continue to do so!

Right now the Federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour! It would behoove everyone to read what JL A left on the average cost of a 2 bedroom apartment of her comment Sunday July 3, 2016, 6:02 pm. It really galls me that we have fellow citizens, perhaps more comfortable in their own lives, argue that people should remain working in poverty wages.

Even at $15 an hour, these people are not getting "rich" it just enables them to keep a roof over the head SOMEWHERE so they can shower, rest, and get up to work to do it all over again. That is a BOTTOM that no one should have to go below if they are working a FULL week at a job. That is a low starting point for someone just entering the work force - now Corporate needs to do better for those who have been there for more years, with degrees.........

In all that is good and holy - how can people argue to keep people on purpose in poverty? When is is okay to have people that are teaching in Colleges and Universities be paid so little they qualify for assistance to eat? At the same time the Administrators of such Universities and the Football Coaches are bringing is such staggering incomes.

That these Universities, to bring in the wealthy children, must now provide swimming pools, state of the art exercise rooms, and a host of other "perks" that are not of educational value that should be paid for by the student OFF campus if they want to swim or have gym equipment available. This is part of the reason cost to attend University is rising, and the affluent can absorb it, only THEIR income is going up, but the middle class the poorer members of society can not even consider a higher education anymore. Then on top of it the salary for the Adjunct Professors is sacrificed in the name of "saving" money and meeting the budgets.

Angelika you bring up a good point - Who is Hillary going to be President for?

For the hundred of thousand of Elders who can barely get by she won't be your consideration, nor the workers I just mentioned above. She certainly won't shed a tear over the young men and now women coming from the impoverished neighborhoods, those sacrifice zones the Elites have created to keep up their lifestyle, that find no opportunities within their community or anywhere else so join the military on
it's promise of seeing the world, gaining a skill, obtaining a college education (if they live) and have their Nation be "proud' of them - at least is better than sleeping on the sidewalk, selling drugs, or ending up in
the Prison Industrial Complex that eagerly awaits those young bodies. No Hillary will not be thinking of them either.

The saddest part is their parents will vote for her, the Elders wanting to see for the first time a woman in the White House will vote for her, the uninformed will vote for her, those who run on that every four year fear of lesser than the other evil will vote for her instead of looking into the 3rd Parties.

Therefore it is most likely, unless of some miracle at the Convention Bernie is selected, the true Beacon, this Country will end up with either Hillary or Trump and neither will be cause for my celebration although I do suspect that Israel leadership and the Wall Street types will be passing the champagne around.

As usual it is worth taking note of what Davis Swanson writes. Here's from an earlier article of his, Excerpt:
http://davidswanson.org/node/5193
[-]
If I were drafting a party platform, it would add to those the following: take military spending back to 2001 levels, tax corporations and billionaires at 1960 levels, restore the minimum wage to its 1968 level, and guarantee everyone top-quality free education preschool through college, healthcare, job training as needed, vacation, family leave, retirement, transportation, childcare, clean energy, public parks, sustainable agriculture, and significant aid to the rest of the world. Yes, that's Bernie's platform, or could have been if he'd been willing to mention cutting military spending or investing in foreign aid. It's also Scandinavia's reality. But a party platform is not the most important place for these commitments.

The place for our passion and even our "unity" is not in a political party that destroys everything we hold dear and calls our continued subservience "unity." We have 60% of the U.S. public that simply cannot stand Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. That may increase as we're forced to endure more and more of the pair of them. If all of those people, or even half of them, backed Jill Stein she might win. But that requires imagining a fair system of elections and of communications that does not exist.

And what if she were elected president? Or what if Bernie Sanders were elected president? We'd still be up against a corrupt communications system, an ill-informed public, a reactionary Congress, a medieval Supreme Court, and the absence of a major independent movement for change. It's good to see Congress Members staging a sit-in to demand that other Congress Members back some ridiculously weak if not counterproductive gun control measures, but what we need is a massive movement of independent people sitting in and surrounding the Capitol until both parties act on the basic lessons learned around the world: ban the guns and stop bombing people.

Does that sound dreamy and utopian? The point is not to expect it to succeed entirely and immediately. The point is that the most strategic way to achieve a partial, compromised solution is to build momentum for a real fix. When your best Congress Members are openly bragging that their opening negotiating demand is for the very least that could possibly be done, the predictable result is less than that. When people fall in behind those so-called public servants, failure is guaranteed.

So what should we do? [--] read on..

Thx Judi, read a nearly identical report of that somewhere else before.
" the “p-word” — Palestinian — " -OMG, can you imagine!
I can't help the feeling that Ms Sherman may be a very intimate friend of HRC.

Angelika - the fact that Ms Sherman is a Jewish American lady says it all and the same goes for Mr Berman. This statement of hers sais it all - pay attention to the wording:

"“I have been with teenagers in Ramallah where I wished I could disappear into the floor because they were so angry and in such pain,” Sherman said. “I have been with Israeli young people who live with risk and terror and fear every single day.”"

See - the Palestinians are just angry and in pain ... whereas the Israelis "live with risk, terror and fear every single day". Got it?! I can't help but wonder: is it the Palestinians who have the 4th biggest army in the world and the most sophisticated paralleled only by the US Army and the Israelis have nothing in terms of Army or ... which way is it?!

JL A - there's no surprise there either. Anything is done to discredit anyone who'd dare to speak out and/or oppose the Zionist's propaganda machinery.

I got an email this morning which confirms and gives another example that one can overstep all kind of lines ... except the Zionist line.

I'm on MoveOn's mailing list and I got a request for a donation because ... Trump tweeted a cartoon about K($)illary Rotten Clinton with a pile of $notes in the background and a Star of David (he insists that it's a Sheriff's badge - LOL) which he got from somewhere. Because of this they want to mount a huge campaign. My answer to this was:

"When Trump utters/ed his diatribes, vitriolic, outright hostile, damning and very demeaning racist statements against
1. Women,
2. Mexicans,
3. Refugees and
4. Muslims
you didn't see it fit and/or necessary to launch such a campaign ... or any campaign for that matter.
But - lo and behold - the first utterance in the direction of Jewish money/donors and you're all up in arms?! Hypocrisy and double standards anyone?!
I believe a look in the mirror would be in order. Sorry but I will never support such a bias action."

BTW - Angelika - did you notice

"“We will continue to work toward a two-state solution of the Israel-Palestinian conflict negotiated directly by the parties that guarantees Israel’s future as a secure and democratic Jewish state with recognized borders,” it reads, “and provides the Palestinians with independence, sovereignty and dignity.”"

Did you also wonder/stumble about/over the fact that there is no mention where this "independence, sovereignty and dignity" should take place? The talks about giving part of Sinai have never stopped since Mubarak and then Mursi gave a willing hand and worked towards this ...

Honi soit qui mal y pense ....

Palestinian medical sources confirmed that the Palestinian woman, who was killed by Israeli army fire, on Wednesday, did not carry an explosive belt as the army claimed, but was instead five months pregnant, and “her only fault was walking the wrong route and not understanding Hebrew.”

The Israeli police and army tried to come up with various allegations, including the usual claim of “carrying a knife,” and then tried to claim that she “was wearing an explosive belt,” while the only thing she “carried” was her fetus.

The slain woman has been identified as Maram Saleh Abu Ismael, 24, a mother of two children; Sarah, 6, and Remas, 4. Her brother, Ibrahim Taha, only sixteen years of age, was also killed as he was walking with her, heading to Jerusalem, after she obtained for the first time, a permit to enter the city.

In contrary to the Israeli allegation that Maram “carried a knife,” and the second allegation of “carrying an explosive,” eyewitnesses said the two victims walked the wrong route while heading to the Qalandia terminal, as they took the route that is only used for vehicles, instead of the pedestrian path.

The soldiers then started shouting in Hebrew, a language neither Maram nor her brother understood, and the woman just froze from fear before the soldiers started firing at her, and when her brother rushed to rescue her, the soldiers shot him too, and both were left to bleed to death.

The two were tens of meters away from the soldiers, and contrary to military allegations, did not attempt to attack any soldier or officer.

Ahmad Taha, an eyewitness from Jerusalem said that after the soldiers shot the pregnant woman and her brother, they retreated a few meters back, and fired several additional live rounds on them, “confirming the kill.”

“There was no stabbing attempt, and no reason for the army to shoot, the soldiers shot them from a distance, and later fired more rounds to confirm the kill,” Ahmad said, “The soldiers then placed two knives next to the lifeless body of the pregnant woman, and shortly after that, the police published pictures showing three knives!”

Mohammad Ahmad, a bus driver who witnessed the shooting, said an Israeli soldier, who standing behind a large concrete block, shot the woman from a distance of more than twenty meters.

“Neither the woman, nor her brother, posed any threat to the lives of the soldiers,” Ahmad stated, “They were far away from the nearest soldier, and did not pose any threat to them – they just walked the wrong route.”

The slain brother and his sister are from Qotna village, northwest of occupied Jerusalem; Maram is Married and living with her husband and children in Beit Surik nearby village.

It is worth mentioning that a Palestinian ambulance rushed to the scene, but the soldiers closed the entire area, and prevented them from approaching the two Palestinians, who eventually bled to death.
More than an hour after the shooting, Israeli military medics placed the corpses of the two Palestinians in black bags, and took them away.

One day before this fatal shooting, a Palestinian man in his sixty nearly faced the same deadly fate when he walked this same wrong route, but when the soldiers started shouting at him he understood them because he speaks and understand Hebrew very well.

In all that is Merciful - the poor woman and her younger brother. Their crime was not understanding a correct route, not understanding a language, and her being pregnant.

The Woman, Who was Killed By Israeli Soldiers Along With Her Brother, Was Pregnant.

Independent Jewish Voices congratulates the Green Party of Canada on the passage of its historic Palestinian rights resolutions

On Sunday, the Greens passed a resolution endorsing the non-violent tactic of Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS). The BDS movement began in 2005 when a broad coalition of Palestinian civil society organizations called on international activists, governments, and institutions to apply pressure on the Israeli government to comply with international law and respect Palestinians’ rights.

At the convention, the Greens also passed an historic resolution in support of revoking the charitable status of the Jewish National Fund of Canada (JNF Canada), an organization whose flagship project, “Canada Park”, is situated over the ruins of ethnically cleansed Palestinian villages within the occupied West Bank.

“One day the Palestinian people will have a just peace. Those who fail to stand for Palestinian rights will be judged harshly. Let us not be judged harshly.” – Dimitri Lascaris, Green Party Justice Critic (who submitted BDS resolution)

Thin HOW LONG we've been fighting and signing petitions for both issues-no ZERO avail ..in the US !
