The Russian Song By Sting

I thought with all the hysteria about the Russians going on again in the USA that brings forth another cold war that this song might be a good reminder.

In Europe and America, there's a growing feeling of hysteria
Conditioned to respond to all the threats
In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets
Mr. Krushchev said we will bury you
I don't subscribe to this point of view
It would be such an ignorant thing to do
If the Russians love their children too

How can I save my little boy from Oppenheimer's deadly toy
There is no monopoly in common sense
On either side of the political fence
We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too

There is no historical precedent
To put the words in the mouth of the President
There's no such thing as a winnable war
It's a lie we don't believe anymore
Mr. Reagan says we will protect you
I don't subscribe to this point of view
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too

We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
What might save us, me, and you
Is if the Russians love their children too

For anyone conditioned into thinking Russia is an enemy, think again.

I love this song, as many other Sting's songs songs, but ...
even Sting sad: I HOPE the Russians love their children too". I do have same hope, but not much faith in Putin's Russia or any other dictatorships countries with nuclear weapons, or terrorists with whom "we share the same biology", or caliphates which are sending their own laving children as human bombs, or ...
There is only one lyric from this song, that I am sure of:
"There's no such thing as a winnable war" :(

Thank you Dandelion

One of Sting's greatest songs. I was lucky enough to see him perform and I enjoyed his show very much. Let's hope the Russians love their children enough not to do anything foolish.

Oh two lucky people got to see him perform this live. Well I think we also best hope that the United States love their children too because we have been sending a lot of bombs and bullets around the world.

I noticed I haven't added my special thanks here for this awesome and meaningful post! Thanks so much Sheryl, really appreciated!
After the fantastic Sting, here's an additional little read. It isn't any commpetition with this great artist, yet, particularly in his home Australia, this renowned and Academie awarded journalist and filmmaker John Pilger is also famous and certainly deals some stings in his latest piece here:

'John Pilger: Provoking Nuclear War by Media ' Pleease do read.

Ros' statement couldn't be more true! I can only second that.
I have never understood this phenomenon of blindness happening here, among people I thought to be educated, awake, not right-wing, not buying into cheap propaganda. But yet most of these people here are still harboring anti- Rusian sentiments. Why? Waht have the Russians done to you?

Amazingly these same people are filling up this website, this forum commplaining, and rightly so I assume, about the MISERY at home, their home, the USofA- not about the Russian home!
Think twice, as Darren suggests. If things are so bad and getting worse as we all have been reading (and writing) about here for YEARS and todate, that country cannot possibly be "The Greatest Country on Earth"- can it?!

But, if I am wrong, and in fact America the Great IS the greatest, then please for heaven's sake stop complaining about the zillion things wrong there and go on with Russia and Putin bashing, things that in all likelyhood you know nothing about, except for propaganda they fed you.

Oh sweet Dandelion this was just what I needed. So Beautiful! I'm envious of all who saw Sting, (my little party/rave girl) as he's one of the greats I missed. Shared both music and lyrics to FB. Thank you.

Ros-no mention of Aussie role I assume b/c no NATO member and Aussie media not so much consumed in Europe and USA. But how bad the OZ Russia bashing is I could see from that link I left at Sam's story lat night ;-) ("The Australian" lol)
Thx for reading my link to Pilger, have always valued him myself.

Thank you; my musical education is lacking (except for Union songs - Woody Guthrie, Phil Ochs, etc. ). This is the first time I heard this.

Thx Ros..and will do, currently just a little too busy with the latest developments in Syria after the Sultan's invasion...not only with impunity but assistance by the US ...
that's US Syria politics: flip flop ad -hoc, no matter if allies kill friends or v.v. , jawdropping.

Great song Sheryl but Ros's question is timely:"The Russians do love their children and so do the's the USofA that don't."
