Friendly North Dakota

Business  (tags: North Dakota, Governor Jack Dalrymple, no regulations, workers death, explosions, environmental disaster, water protectors, Gov )

With the oil business North Dakota has even less regulations than Texas which has just about none it opens the door to environmental disaster, huge worker deaths, lots of loopholes, and no one taking responsibility for anything.

Figures, figures, figures! As usual, John Oliver hits the proverbial nail proverbially on the proverbial head. Big Oil doesn't give a censored about worker safety, just about how much dead dinosaur juice it can leech out of the ground. Every profanity-salted barb Oliver hurls at the Big Fossil Fuel fat cats is yet another reason for us to holler and howl for more solar and wind and other clean, renewable energy. Many cities and even entire countries now get all their energy from renewable sources. I used to subscribe to "drill here, drill now" as a path to energy independence. Now I know that we will not achieve real energy independence till we wean ourselves entirely off dirty, limited fossil fuels. No ethics commission? No wonder North Dakota's gub-mint has the ethics of the Mafia and the morals of the Death Eaters. Apparently, "business friendly" means worker- and environment-unfriendly. Be angry, North Dakota - remember Standing Rock!

have spent a couple of nights in ND, wish I didn't have to, but if you want to drive from Minnesota to Glacier or Yellowstone you do have to pass through

Noted. Thanks, Dandelion.

John Oliver sure got ahead of the DAPL story here---brilliant comic mind!
Kinda shocking that there are only 8 full-time OSHA compliance officers for both ND & SD. And, the GOP always wants to de-regulate. I guess until there are no rules or laws at all.

When someone dies every 6 weeks in the Bakkan Oil Fields, something is definitely not working correctly.
When fines are reduced to about 10% of assessed penalties, this is the height of corruption.
And, I loved that Last Week Tonight put up that billboard.

IF every spammer, and passive Noter and Thanker of a thread calling for active action, DID act, and share at the very least, the world would improve.
