Seriously disturbing. However, they should have planned better, not left the it to the last day.
I hope that he doesn't have to stay in jail for six months.

Wish I could remember what group had the petition related to this case; thanks Dandelion, a great example of how out of control the border enforcement efforts have become.

While he should have planned better, the actions taken by Immigration were over the top. It was 90 mins. not 90 days. They should have just given him a bit of a lecture for next time and let him go.

Handcuffs? A bit OTT. Phillipa and Sue are correct. He should have gone to Canada giving himself a week or two to get the new US Visa not wait until the day it was expiring, but nevertheless it was unnecessary to detain him. All they would have had to do is tell him he had to get on the next flight back to Australia and deport him just like they normally did until recently. More tourism will be stopping once this gets major press in Australia. More and more people are going to be afraid to come to US. Tourism is a large part of the US economy. Oh well, the tourist people can always go work in the newly opened coal mines since most of the coal miners that aren't on death's door with coal mining related diseases have already acquired jobs in the solar panel industry. Let's pat the Republicans on the back for their great governing.

here we go again, Sorry Australia for our awful President. I'm sorry that President Trump does not seem to value our Alliance between our countries enough to behave better. .

Florida depends on tourist and our Tea Bag Gov. Rick Scott is now complaining that DC is not going to fund a promotional program he cared about. These Republicans are now all ripping at each the throats of each other.

Just is a shame that people like this young man as well as most of the average citizen who doesn't go along with what is taking place pays the costs of DC's foolishness.

I agree he should have started this sooner, but now he stands to be in prison for 6 months, costing the taxpayer money to keep him there. I'm not sure what he does for a living but 6 months can cost him his job all for what?

Excellent Animae. I bet he can't wait to get out of the USA. He has an American girlfriend so he is still tied here. They'll have to work these things out, but at least he isn't going to remain behind bars, while they figure this out
