Jeremy Corbyn Has Caused A Sensation He Would Make A Fine Prime Minister

This is one of the most sensational political upsets of our time. This was the highest turnout since 1997 perhaps the biggest Labour percentage since the same year. Labour is now permanently transformed. It is now the partys consensus.

Congrats to all those in the UK! I'm so happy for you all.

Now we can only hope that our future elections will do as well for us. Watch this Dem's - if you put up truly the Progressive Candidates, people are eager to vote for them.

If you continue to push your Corporate Candidates you'll continue to lose, because the Independents are not going to vote for them nor are the awakened Democrats. Many of those awakened Democrats moved or are moving to 3rd Parties.

You want to be a viable Party, then you must move to the Left and put in Progressives who will are not going to take Corporate funds. Bernie Sanders proved the people will come out and help and support truly Progressive Candidates. Fail to do that and you keep pushing us to the Right.......and if people are going to vote in Republican Candidates, they'll vote Republican, not Democrat.

So thank you UK for giving me hope and inspiration. A truly good day, even for those of us across the pond.

Let's hope the Labour Party backs him or they may doom themselves like our Democrats.

Theresa May has, so far, indicated she's not stepping down as PM - although normally the PM would already have done so in the face of such a narrow win when all looked set for a great victory.

Mind you - the Tories had a hard time getting ANYONE to step up when Cameron resigned - Nobody (not even those who led the Brexit campaign - Farrage, Johnson, Gove) want to carry the can for the Brexit negotiations ...

I hope that an opposition coalition (excluding UKIP) will put party differences aside and pull together -

Thanks for posting this promising news Dandelion! The people definitely need a progressive voice to fix the damage from austerity and neoliberal policies. I share Peggy's hope that his party does back him.

He's easily the best Labour leader there has been since the late John Smith, and also quite easily the best political leader in Britain at the moment.

Shared article over social media to raise and spread awareness.

From what I have heard here in the PNW, Democrats were really rooting for Theresa May. Her attitude towards increasing funding for defense aligns perfectly with their ideal, if you can say the Democrats have an ideal. What do you think about the Democrats giving the snub to Nina Turner in Ohio and choosing to run Jerry Springer, instead? Jerry Springer? Sheesh.

At least one policy Corbyn has promoted which makes him seem like he is at least more progressive than May: He wants to cut off the funding to those countries who fund terrorism. Will this make much traction? I know that people all around the globe want to see the funding cut off. It seems that Dr. Stein included something like this in her campaign for President. Democrats just don't get it. Until they start being replaced with more progressive representatives all across the political spectrum, they will not change. As Dr. Stein used to say, "The power is in our hands."

The Corporate Establishment within the Democratic Party are still kissing the Corporate ring when they turn, once again, their back on Nina Turner. Bless her heart she has been trying her best to work within the Party however not sure how many slap in the face one has to get before they say enough. She is such a class act and really knows her I agree, Jerry Springer vs Nina Turner......Sheesh is right.

So we keep saying until the Democrats can be replaced with the Progressive voices but the Dem's are still fighting every Progressive voice. They place in Big Pharma and against the CA Universal Health Care they are trying to pass for their Chairman. Nina Turner was the more Progressive voice, the Dem's failed to be supportive of Tim Canova and instead pushed Debbie Wasserman Schultz despite all the goings on with her.

The people in the UK call Corbyn their Bernie Sanders that might give you a bit of where he is standing.

In brief, had the United States voted in Bernie Sanders into the White House, AND Jeremy Corbyn got an overall majority for Labour (despite OVERWHELMING right-wing press/media propaganda being peddled against him), then our two countries WOULD BE VERY DIFFERENT landscapes for all of us today.

The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) & Theresa May have today agreed a 'confidence' deal.

Theresa May said there will NOT be a coalition of CHAOS.

She has TODAY agreed a 'confidence' deal with the The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP)

Here is a list of DUP stances, in case you need a reminder:

The DUP want to make it legal to discriminate against anyone from the LGBT community.

The DUP want children to be taught creationism as scientific fact.

The DUP want no woman to have access to any type of abortion, and furthermore criminalise anyone offering or seeking that service.

The DUP want to bring back the death penalty

Theresa May should RESIGN. This is a disgusting, desperate attempt to stay in power.

I signed the petition already Darren but glad you placed it onto this thread.

I agree with Sanders and Corbyn we'd begin to start moving our Nations into a better direction. It would not have changed overnight, but we'd be going in the correct direction.

Would he make a fine PM? I wonder ,we would have to wait and see .When I look at UK and its problems I'm so glad I don't live there. .,We really are the lucky country. We have the capacity to avoid other countries social problems and must make sure we stay that way.

We live in a globally connected world. . . to suggest that we should "take care of our own" is fine except a lot of our relative cultured existences has been built on the exploitation of OTHER COUNTRIES. . .

Acknowledge and take responsibility for that.

Thanks for signing! Now let's prove that the public won't accept any coalition deal that attacks women's rights, or same-sex marriage, or action on climate change. With Postal Code TR2 4JA

It seems that the deal hasn't actually been signed yet - agreement on SOME principles, and the media (e.g. Daily Maul) announcing that it's agreed but according to BBC, discussions are still on-going.

So perhaps the petitions will carry some more weight?

I had to check out these DUP (I guess it really should stand for DUPlicitous ???!)
"Some of the DUP’s views are dangerous. They include being anti-abortion, opposing same-sex marriage, and denying climate change. " Sounds like Trump/Pence family??

Meanwhile, I hope the other parties get together & decide to place principles above "party positions" - so they can create pressure in the interests of the ordinary people.

Great article, thanks Dandelion. I knew nothing of the DUP policies - they do sound horribly familiar!

The Netherlands and France rejected right wing candidates - I see that as an encouraging sign that attitudes are changing. I hope it continues.

More on the DUP

The DUP And 7 Times They'Ve Done Something Batsh*t Crazy

But it certainly looks as though Downing Street's announcement was very premature!!
DUP/Tory Deal Statement ‘Issued In Error’ By Downing Street As Theresa May’s Talks Continue

"Downing Street has been described as an “omnishambles” after being forced to retract a statement claiming Theresa May had struck a confidence and supply deal with the the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP)."

The saddest thing about the present political situation in the UK is that I fear the UK won't CONSIDER another female Prime Minister for a very long time (whatever party) ...

In fact, May only made it because no career-driven politician wanted the hot potato of negotiating Brexit - a guaranteed closure to a political career, I suspect! A grab for power when few wanted the position ... And that's probably the main factor that is allowing her to hang on to the reins of government despite an effective show of "no confidence". (Normally, after such a slap in the face by the People, a PM would resign straight away - as did Cameron.) Does anyone in the Tory Party want to take over from her? Somehow, I suspect not! What a mess ...

France seems to be taking steps towards collaboration between different movements/parties in the elections. I wish the UK parties would do the same round Corbyn.

Darren Woolsey (218)

Well, actually, another reason why May got the job, was that fellow contender Andrea Leadsome, was taped talking about May's inability to conceive children, actually cast question over her ability to lead a party.

Both the Liberal Democrats AND UKIP in fact, lost their leaders during the last General Election. They could have voted in a female leader. . .

The attitude of the British Labour Party to the brutal, barbaric ritual slaughter of gentle animals was outlined to me in an E-mail from my Labour MP, Debbie Abrahams, Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions in Corbyn's Shadow Cabinet during the last Parliament (4/8/15):

"Whilst the Labour Party would prefer that all animals are stunned before slaughter, we do not think it would be acceptable to ban 'non-stunned' slaughter as this would end the production of halal and kosher meat."

Back in 2005, the then Labour Government rejected the recommendations of the Farm Animal Welfare Council that the legal exemption allowing non-stun slaughter be terminated. (RSPCA Farm Animals Department Information Sheet, Feb., 2015, page 2 ").

It is difficult to imagine a more regressive position, pandering, as it does, to those who wish to inflict gratuitous brutality upon defenceless animals; abhorrent practices which are derived from Ancient and Medieval times.,

In the Labour Party 2017 General Election Manifesto, the following policy was adopted with regard to post-Brexit Britain. The Labour Party would ensure

".... continued market access allowing British farmers and food producers to continue to sell their products on the continent."

It should be noted that thousands of these "products" are, in fact, innocent, defenceless, sentient animals.

Brexit affords the opportunity for the now, once again, sovereign Parliament of the UK to ban this vile trade of live animal exports by withdrawing from the Single Market, with its regime of freedom of movement of "goods". I fully support the current campaign of Compassion In World Farming in seeking to ensure that this opportunity is grasped. Clearly, Labour Party has avoided making the same commitment.

Finally, I believe that the inspirational words of the great Mahatma Gandhi can be used as a criterion by which to judge not only nations, but people, institutions, organisations and, indeed, political parties. They are well known to Care2 members. I repeat them here:

"The greatness of a nation, and its moral progress, can be judged by the way its animals are treated".

And so it is that I judge the self-styled, and, indeed, so-called "progressive" and "radical" British Labour Party.
