Trumps UN Tirade and The Logic of Imperialism

There have been studies done by the American military and its associated think tanks which provide chilling indications of the horror that would ensue from a US-North Korean war.

"In 1938 Leon Trotsky warned that imperialism “toboggans with closed eyes toward an economic and military catastrophe.” Within just a year of these remarks, Hitler unleashed his army against a largely defenseless Poland and set into motion the cataclysm of the second imperialist world war.

Trotsky’s words acquire renewed relevance in the aftermath of Donald Trump’s tirade at the United Nations, where the US president openly threatened the launching of a genocidal war, using language that has not been heard since the days of the Third Reich."

Trump is one inconsistent, arrogant, fascist, racism, xenophobic, provocative asshole acting like a spoilt hormonal teenager on speed with access to nuclear codes. Very dangerous.

Anyone who thinks having a gold elevator is a good idea, has a complete disconnection with reality.

Very scary. Hopefully there are some adults in the room who can manage Trump.

And where are all the Trump supporters now who claimed he was some sort of peace candidate?

There hasn't appeared to be anyone yet who has managed to do so Bryan. Well I suppose we can't say too much on these Presidents not being a "peace" President, our Peace Prize Obama was the first to have a war going from the start to finish of his reign. At least he was wise enough to not inflame North Korea with words and he gave the appearance of being Presidential.

But peace....ha ha Not when we have a Military Industrial Complex like Eisenhower spoke upon, not when a Country is an Empire with no real Peace Movement to speak upon, not when Corporate media hardly tells a thing about what military actions are taking place and mostly feeds us lies when they do.

Before Trump was elected, I wouldn't have thought of him as a peace present by any means, but at least he didn't seem like he would be fighting with Russia. He didn't seem like as much of a potential warmonger as Clinton at that time, at any rate. If one was looking really hard to try to find something positive about a Trump presidency, that's about the only good thing that a person could find. Really, I think that whenever any U.S. president gets into office they find out really fast that the military-industrial complex is in control and is absolutely going to continue to conduct business as usual. Of course that is the endless war on terror – so convenient. There is no actual enemy, and no clearly defined objective when you're fighting terror.

There is one thing that I would point out that is not very prominent in the article. The author mentions the Russians wargames they've been conducting recently. The press has been really playing that up as if it is something new, or something really huge. Actually, the Russians conduct these exercises, called the Zapad, translates as "the West"), regularly. Like any country with a military, they conduct these military exercises periodically as a matter of routine, ensuring their readiness. Since many of our leaders in the U.S. as well as the media have been trying to play up the war drums against Russia, the significance of the Zapad has been overly hyped recently. We certainly have enough involvement in real wars at this time. We don't need any hype to resurrect the Cold War with Russia on top of it! I certainly agree with what the article's message – working people everywhere need to try hard to oppose imperialist violence in any way they can.

Of course your right Sheryl. We haven't had any presidents interested in peace for quite awhile. And none of them can change the course of the empire even if they wanted to. I wonder what the real reason for wanting war with N Korea is. What's to be gained?

Judy, that's very true. Since the US is fighting a tactic, that tactic can be ascribed to any people not aligned with US plans at any time. And i'm sure these Russian war games have been really hyped up. While all the US military exercises around the world (like the ones that piss off the N Koreans) and all our bases around the world are just simply the way things are.

Bryan: " I wonder what the real reason for wanting war with N Korea is. What's to be gained?" Trump's ego. He wants the world to say he finally got rid of the threat of North Korea. He has been provoking NK ever since he was elected.

DT can't distinguish between tele-reality, where insults are a weapon of choice, and the reality of a world in which insults can trigger death and destruction.

His campaign was overloaded with his insults games - and the shock value won him many hours of free media coverage.

But in the "real world", there are many cultures in which "loss of face" is one of the worst things possible.
Being "clever" is the stupidest thing possible.

DT needs to be muzzled, & his tiny hands put in mittens that prevent tweeting ... Cement-filled mittens, permanent freezing of the fingers?

Agree Evelyn. Cement filled mittens and duct tape over the mouth.
