Lets examine our attitude toward peace itself. Too many of us think it is impossible. That is dangerous defeatist belief. It leads 2 the conclusion that war is inevitable that mankind is doomed gripped by forces we cannot control. We need not accept that

Thanks JL A for pointing out this speech to me. It is now as important if not more so to seal these words in our hearts and minds for the words today coming out of a current President are far removed from these words. I know things were not perfect then, but strides were being made to achieve many positive things. I do not at all recognize this Country called United States, it is nothing like the one I grew up in.

Thanks. Bahá'u'lláh taught that a just and lasting peace is not only possible but the certain destiny of mankind.

Thanks for posting Dandelion--it is a contrast yet important to remember that this is how a POTUS who took his oath of office so very seriously in similarly risky times viewed presidential responsibility.

The Buddha taught that humanity will eventually destroy everything including themselves, as has happened many times before, he was a realist without being defeatist!
I wonder how Bahá'u'lláh plans to eradicate human GREED??

Thanks so much, Dandelion! This is why the Russians took care of Pres. Kennedy i.m.o. The intelligence of the man could not be disputed, - but he was muted by elimination~ I believe the principles of his well-spoken words must live on if we are to do the same. I think the lack of intelligence is exactly what the Russian government admires about the Trump leadership of our nation today.
Keep up the wonderful work, Dandelion! We have choices!!!

John Kennedy could have been called the great unifier. While he was not perfect, his pro-peace stance was unifying. Just about all Americans loved him. However, our intelligence agencies wanted something else. So, these agencies made the decision to take Kennedy out and set Lee Harvey Oswald up as the fall guy.

Thank you so much Dandelion, for posting this excellent speech and article. Thank you for pointing it out to her, JL I hadn't read or listened to anything by Kennedy for a while, but this reminds me why he is held in such high regard. I hope people take the time to really listen to the ideas that he puts forth.

Of course the first thing that probably hits you hard is the contrast between this speech and the degenerate gibberish we are used to listening to out of Trump. This speech demonstrates intelligence, maturity, humility, including inability to look at one's own shortcomings, and a keen understanding of human nature. Kennedy's view is that we are evolving. In today's world the noise made by those who are moving in the opposite direction is so loud it's hard to find the voices of those who are becoming better human beings, with something to offer to their world.

It's very frightening to live in today's world, and hold out any hope for peace. However, although it appears that we are moving backward, there are many people such as those listed who are participating in the "No War 2017: War and the Environment" conference that is referenced at the end of the article. Progress does occur among humans with steps forward and back. Those who have moved forward rarely go back, so we must pay attention to these people and do our best to act in a principled way to make the world around us better.

Everything that is created must also be destroyed – with endless cycles of that process alternatinhg according to the Hindu Scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. That's why Robert Oppenheimer experienced the profound regret he had for participating in the development of nuclear weapons. A lot of people have seen the video of Oppenheimer's comments when he realizes what he has done. It really is frightening when the world hangs in the balance as two maniacs like Trump and Kim Jong Un spar with one another like playground bullies, when such weapons are a reality. Here's a link to a video with Oppenheimer's comments:

Time lapse ran out before I could fully comment Dandelion.........WorldbeyondWar.Com have been a member since I don't remember when .......LOL showing my age no doubt.......at least we had real alternative papers/magazines to read...like pix/post/the people even HH's (RIP) playboy magazine ran real current affairs (not a pun) articles.......unlike today where the "smart phone" is just making their users dumber...but that is also a reflection of believing the propaganda that they a feed....we did grown up in a more liberal world.......now that "word" has been hijack....like so many other things...solidarity that should be the buzz word.......leave you with this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYw1aNSfZls

One point in that video I find chilling is the part that the Scientist took up a pool as to what the bomb would do, one said, "it may blow up all of New Mexico"...........and still they did it anyways.

As Ros's comment wasn't there when I left my comment, my last comment was on the link that Judy had given, not Ros's link of Brotherhood of Man.

Yes, we did grow up in a more liberal time Ros, it was a time when we felt that the world was tired of wars, we were becoming more educated, not just the wealthy had access to higher learning, and we really felt in the future or a future we'd aspire to could be better in many ways. We started in the USA, with Earth Day to clean up our environment, and we did a lot of good, but then.........the Corporate began to take over. Rights of everyone were discussed and improving, now those are being removed. So a more hopeful time it was.

Many thanks Dandelion for your comment....we as humans forget that we are part of the animal kingdom....so most feel "superior" because we are at the top of the food chain....which enables us to destroy everything... including ourselves and our Mother Home......but it seems the "lesser" animals are more inclusive......same song different clip....for all those animals out there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLm2kfwXgTA
