Nobody could put it better than a Comment in one of the newspapers:
"I encourage the students to continue their protest. I hope they organize an all Catholic High School boycott of classes throughout the diocese. The students are right. They can and should stand together. It is the right thing to do. It will make a difference. Go students! Use your Twitter and Facebook accounts to mount
the single greatest student uprising in the history of Washington State.
Don't accept anything less than a re-instatement of your teacher/vice-principal."
No, I didn't write that, but I agree 100%!
Letters and tweets and e-mails are coming in from all over the WORLD. It's wonderful to see them! {Scroll down from the Petition.... and down.... and down.... and down.... and...}

Also, with Social Media, some kids are TWEETING THE POPE DIRECTLY. "Hey, Big Guy..." starts one. "You're needed in Washington!" Pope Francis CAN'T IGNORE THIS - it's SO BIG.
Many Alumni of the school that fired the teacher, are PLEDGING TO WITHDRAW ALL FUTURE FINANCIAL SUPPORT unless he is re-instated with apologies...
The school is being hypocritical about whether the teacher "resigned voluntarily" {HAH!} or was fired... there ARE legal issues... which I won't go into here.
At least 15 Catholic schools have fired Gay teachers recently - and there have been SEVERAL Petitions on This time, tho, the Scheiss has REALLY hit the fan.....
The school was closed early "because of snow".... Yeah, about one inch..... I'm in Seattle, near Sammamish, where this took place, and I am THRILLED - schools in SEVERAL surrounding communities, including Seattle, "went out" in SUPPORT...!!!!! As I said, this is BIG, this is a form of REVOLUTION....
Kids aren't just passively "accepting religious leaders' teachings" as in the past, not even waiting until they are "grown up" to PROTEST those hypocritical "teachings"..... WOW! The Church has LOST THEM...!!!!!

As someone pointed out, if this had been a CATHOLIC PRIEST who had actually MOLESTED, RAPED, COERCED OR HURT A CHILD, that person would have simply been quietly moved to another parish!
This is all about "being Gay sets a Bad Example for the kids". Like, in previous generations, schoolteachers were supposed to be UNMARRIED WOMEN who supposedly knew nothing about Sex - the moment they got married, they couldn't teach any more!
Actually, the school {says it} had the legal right to fire the teacher - he, like all employees, had to sign a Contract saying they would "observe Catholic doctrine". HOWEVER, this bit of coercion is NOT enforced in Catholic schools with regard to DIVORCED AND RE-MARRIED employees! THAT is "against Catholic doctrine" as well!!! So, the legal question is raised, if the school DID fire the teacher, was he SINGLED OUT BECAUSE HE WAS GAY.... while the same school administration let Heteros get away with "not observing Catholic doctrine" in their personal relationships! Even for a Private Institution, in the State of Washington that apparently would not be legal!
So the school has to be UTTER HYPOCRITES in telling the Press that the teacher "left voluntarily", after "coming to an understanding" - while they told the PARENTS that the teacher had been FIRED! Also, at that little conference where "an understanding was reached" {HAH!}, the school's Catholic LAWYER was present.... suuuuure!
The teacher had been at the school for a year and a half, during which time apparently he was OUTSTANDING with the kids, they all say! He even stayed to clean up after school events, the kids noted... jobs the elite schools {such as that one} usually leave to janitors.... Impressing the kids, apparently, with that "humble" example as much as anything! And, the teacher NEVER mentioned being Gay... his private life was his private life. Which is fine.
Apparently, the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" mentality is alive & well in Catholic schools. About FIFTEEN of them, before this, have fired Gay teachers AFTER THEY GOT MARRIED. This teacher/vice principal got married in June - apparently some other teachers got wind about it just NOW, and told the Administration - tattled, it seems. AFTER it "got out", the school then HAD to fire him like the others....
But - HEH HEH HEH HEH HEH - but, THIS IS *SEATTLE*......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[Sammamish, where all this is taking place, can be considered a suburb or satellite of Seattle...]
And the kids AREN'T HAVING ANY....
the WORLD now knows about that!
[Apparently, they think Pope Francis is going to be on their side...!]
After all, THIS IS LIBERAL, PROGRESSIVE SEATTLE.... Seattle that just elected a Socialist to City Council...
The OTHER Catholic High Schools all over the area, have CUT CLASSES IN SUPPORT OF THIS HIGH SCHOOL... all spread thru Social Media of course!
And this is INTERNATIONAL... support coming in from EVERY COUNTRY.... Front Page News of course in Seattle... many Editorials in MANY papers thruout the country...
And the KIDS are LEADING BY MORAL EXAMPLE..... I love that!!!

Over 22,000 signatures in just two days....
This is Big like Luther's Theses nailed to the Cathedral Door were Big in his day. [The start of the Reformation.]

Some more background - Sartain, the Catholic high-mucky-muck RESPONSIBLE ultimately, for this, was appointed by the previous Pope, Ratzi the Nazi, to CLAMP DOWN ON the "rebellion" in the Seattle area - specifically, to BRING THOSE UPPITY ELDERLY "FEMINIST" NUNS TO HEEL - Nuns who actually tried to serve the Poor, rather than concentrating on fighting Gay Rights and Gay Marriage in the State of Washington! Sartain replaced Hunthausen, who was a Liberal....
just to give some more background on the subject.

I will be seeing those Nuns, I hope, in January.... when they have a Vigil against Human Trafficking. I am DYING to know what they'll say! They are LIBERALS... and so, apparently, is Seattle University, a Jesuit College in Seattle, that has the reputation of being Liberal and not hidebound.... so people tell me! Nothing heard from Seattle U, yet, that I know of....

It MAKES A DIFFERENCE when this teacher's firing happened here in Seattle, not in the South somewhere...
This is a CRISIS, and can the Pope actually step up to the plate? The Roman Catholic Church will REFORM NOW, or it is DEAD... except maybe in places like Africa...
The HYPOCRISY of the elders, those who easily, now, get "annulments" of their marriages from the Church so they can get divorced and re-married to other Catholics, those Catholic adults who quietly use Birth Control all their lives and even have Abortions, while DENYING those same things to poor women who use Catholic hospitals...
Those who don't REALLY believe in literal Hell and the Devil, who have all sorts of extramarital sex or who are Gay and Catholic, and have a token relationship with the Church for "tradition's" sake....
The Catholic Church in the Modern 20th and 21st Century, has been CRUISING ALONG ON HYPOCRISY all this while.... and, thanks to THIS ONE INCIDENT, the "straw that broke the camel's back"....
that HYPOCRITICAL MODE has become UNTENABLE forever more.... !!!!!!!

Over 23, 000 Signatures in less than two days!
The Roman Catholic Church will HAVE TO RESPOND, as this is SPREADING LIKE WILDFIRE among the students who will be its next generation.
This is Front-page News in Seattle, has sponsored Editorials in Newspapers all over the country, and expressions of Support by Catholics, ex-Catholics and others, of all ages, have come in from most of the countries in the world!!!
Imagine STUDENTS - CATHOLIC TEENAGERS - having as their slogan, "CHANGE THE CHURCH!"

They are not AFRAID any more - like previous generations apparently were - cowed by the "mystique" of Priests and Nuns as Holy Beings, terrified of "Sinning" even a little, and ending up FOREVER TORMENTED BY DEVILS IN HELL. Uh-huh, SCIENCE, not to mention Common Sense, has FINALLY caught up with the Medieval Church in the 21st century....
And it is THESE KIDS, and NOT the Church Hierarchy - and the Pedophile Priest cover-uppers - it is the TEENAGE STUDENTS who are showing the World their SUPERIOR MORALITY, OVER the Hypocrisy OF THE ENTIRE HIERARCHY that DARES to appoint itself their "Guardians".....

What a CONUNDRUM for Pope Francis, that he can't avoid in a diplomatic way, as these KIDS HAVE CONTACTED THE POPE DIRECTLY THRU SOCIAL MEDIA and the ENTIRE WORLD knows of it!!!
Pope Francis has some really TOUGH CHOICES to make, on which hangs the future of the Church...
{One knows what Ratzi the Nazi would've done! THAT is why he got fired! But it's too bad, in a way...}

From the Petition Organizer, Bradley Strode:
"The students at Eastside Catholic High School staged a successful sit in today to educate, spread awareness, and take a stand on the Catholic Church's gay marriage policy. We garnered the support of almost all of the other Catholic schools in the Seattle area who held a similar sit in.
Our goal, however, is not to make this a one day event. We intend to come up with a plan to present our complaints as a Catholic community and beyond to the Catholic Church. The beauty of being a Catholic is that we are allowed to disagree and engage in discussion with our Church. This is our right. We are taking it. Help us get there."
I don't know about you, but this BOGGLES my mind!
That these Students are not the cowed, obedient, subservient little wrecks that SOME Catholic Education in previous generations has produced {I once knew some people fitting that description}....
I mean, they are CHALLENGING THE HIERARCHY, and ON MATTERS OF FAITH AND MORALS - on which the Pope is SUPPOSED to be "Infallible" - Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!
In other words, NOT BRAINWASHED.... in fact, teachers like the one that got fired - like the FIFTEEN Gay Teachers and Aides that have gotten fired in Catholic Dioceses all over the country - teachers in Catholic schools like those, have apparently been a HUMANISTIC INFLUENCE.... also some of the progressive and Feminist NUNS that I know...
It's a New Day, definitely... Am holding my breath to see where this goes....

This Educator was FIRED ON DECEMBER 6 after seeking a marriage license to wed his long-time same-sex partner - after 12 YEARS OF EMPLOYMENT. And for the SAME REASONS - he had signed a "Contract". One which is obviously SELECTIVELY ENFORCED against Gay people - NOT enforced against Hetero divorcees...

And there are LOTS of Petitions like this on the site, just go to the Gay Rights section.
LOTS of 'em like this one.
Wonder how the students at "Holy Ghost Preparatory School" are feeling right this moment...!!!

B: I signed your petition; it's the sixth I've signed over this termination, and I agree it's great that so many thousands of people have signed, but I must remind you that that what looks to you like a lot of signatures is infinitesimal to an organization with a more than a billion members; it's not even an impressive number within the confines of the US, which has 75 million Catholics. This is not Luther and the 100 Theses; the Church can, and probably will, ignore this. Don't be disappointed if nothing happens on the surface, even with our sympathetic new Pope. I'm not saying nothing will happen. I would not be surprised if Pope Francis demoted Sartain - he's got a ton of conservative assholes all over the world appointed by his two predecessors to fire, and it's going to take a while, so be patient. He's already shitcanned the idiot who led the unsuccessful effort to deny prochoice politicians communion in 2004.

As you know from our dialogue about the Tsarnaev brothers and terrorism, I was raised Catholic (all of the IRA info should have been a clue). What you don't know is that I went to a Catholic college, where my teachers were Jesuits, and where I was taught that I am free to disagree with and disobey anything that is not a solemn pronouncement of the Church, and since there aren't any, I'm good to go, as long as I don't disobey the 10 commandments and have a cogent argument for my disagreement. That's what the kid was talking about when he said that we are free to engage our church in argument. People who rail against 'Cafeteria Catholics' are ignorant of actual Catholic theology. The fact that Francis is the first Jesuit to occupy the Throne of St Peter could produce a revolution, but please, give him time and support.

I would also ask you to get some perspective. The Catholic Church is not behind the 'kill the gays' legislation being pushed in legislatures all over Africa, and finally passed in Uganda. American fundamentalist Protestants have performed an ALEC like role all over sub Saharan Africa to promote legislation that makes homosexuality a capitol offense. The Catholic Church is competing for souls in the global south with the American Taliban, and if you're smart, you'll want them to win.

The Catholic Church IS a corporation, and it's the oldest and largest one on the planet, but it's also the largest charitable institution in human history, and it's certainly the largest do gooder organization on earth. It feeds, clothes, houses, educates and provides medical care for more people than anything else ever has or ever will. Don't ignore that., and don't ignore the racial composition of the country in which you live. As soon as you go south of the border, people with native features predominate, and they do because of the Catholic Church, which deemed the peoples of the New World human beings, with souls to save. In Protestant North America, they were pests to be eradicated. I'll never forget an afternoon in Cortez's palace in my favorite town in Mexico, Cuernavaca, when I was in my mid 30s. I'd been there before at 13 with my dad, but it was my mom's first visit, and we were with a driver named Alex who'd picked us up at the airport in Mexico City. In between those two visits, I'd learned a lot of history (especially Mexican history), and I asked Alex, nervously, what he thought of Cortez. His answer floored me. He was glad that Cortez had come, because if he hadn't, the English would have, and he (Alex) would never have been born because his ancestors would have been systematically exterminated.

As to the guy who got fired for getting married, I agree with you 1000% that it's hypocritical to not hold heterosexuals to the same standards of an employment contract. I hope he sues, because going through the courts is the only way to get legal clarity on issues like this. I personally think that Jefferson, etc., are not only rolling, but vomiting, in their graves. They were 18th century Enlightenment thinkers, and virtually none of them believed in the divinity of Jesus. Hell, George Washington was an atheist. When you go to Mt Vernon and visit the room in which he died, they tell you about his adamant refusal to see a minister, and Martha's anguish over his decision, and the pride of his present friends over his integrity. He hadn't stepped foot in a church in 20 years. The founders set up that firewall between church and state for very good reasons, and we should all be eternally grateful, and watchful and militantly opposed to right wing attempts to tear it down. You, personally, should be mindful that it's not the Catholic Church that is trying to tear down that wall. The American Taliban are not Catholics.

On the bright side, there is talk of excommunicating Paul Ryan for his desire to shit on the poor in order to protect tax loopholes for rich people and corporations. Even prior to Pope Francis's consecration, the ultraconservative Conference of Catholic Bishops condemned his budget as being disastrous for the poor, to which he replied (and I'm quoting!) "They don't speak for all of the bishops". Whoever ushered him through First Holy Communion and Confirmation did a major facepalm at that Homer Simpsonesque response. His mother must be so proud, and according to the Catholic Church, he's going straight to Hell when he dies, so there's something you and the bishops agree on!

Just out of curiosity, have you given any thought to the parallels between this firing and the suspension of Duck Dynasty's Phil by A&E? A private institution acts to protect itself from what it considers to be the predominant views of it's customers. I think both institutions got it wrong. Let Phil be Phil, but make him go toe to toe with a Biblical scholar who has a different point of view. I don't think that the majority of his viewers agree with his love of Leviticus, and neither does he. He's a Louisiana swamp rat who eats shellfish, which is also an 'abomination'. Clearly, the Catholic community in Seattle disagrees with this decision, and a 'Don't Go To Church' day should be organized. Cheers!

Agree that the Catholic Church allows known pedophiles to work with children, even moving them from church to church, not informing parents that there's a predator in their midst. However, they don't allow two people, doing no harm to anyone, clearly ready to make a forever commitmment, to marry...just because they happen to be of the same sex. Hypocrites.

ForceChange Petition is to censure the SCHOOL for firing the teacher - the usual thing one expects in such instances {but also worthy to sign!}.
The Petition, however, is something that's to me, MIND-BOGGLING:
Here is what the Student who started it has to say:
by Bradley Strode
Petition Organizer
"This is not an Anti-Catholic Church movement or a Gay Rights movement. Our true goal is to change the way the Church approaches gay marriage. We must do so with positive attitudes, comments and collaboration with the Holy Catholic Church."
Reached 25,000 signatures
Going National
"Our cause has reached millions, being picked up by hundreds of media stations and journals including the New York Times, the Associated Press, and ABC News. However, we can't let this be a couple day social media frenzy. We are working towards ways to advance our cause for after the Christmas season and must keep the momentum on this petition rolling in order to help us work with the Catholic Church towards a solution. Thank you for your support!"
as well they SHOULD... !
If, in response to this Petition, the Holy Roman Catholic Church DOES change its policies on Gay Marriage...
what a VICTORY!
If, on the other hand, the Catholic Church Hierarchy and the Pope try to IGNORE this Petition, or turn it down...
then, the CHURCH WILL HAVE LOST AN ENTIRE NEXT GENERATION..... as well as MORE people leaving the Church, leaving the Catholic School System and STOPPING FUNDING IT... as the vast Majority of Parents and Alumni of these schools, have expressed their support of the KIDS...
On the other hand, CHANGING THE RULES ON GAYS AND ON SEXUALITY, that won't sit well at ALL with Opus Dei and other Ultra-conservative parts of the Church, who ALSO consist of heavy financial funders...
The Holy Roman Catholic Church has found itself, in the 21st century, in a place where IT CAN'T POSSIBLY SATISFY ALL SIDES....
[Giving the LIE to its pretensions of being, quote, "Catholic", which is supposed to mean, "Universal"...]
[Yes, that IS sortof where A&E has simultaneously found itself these days.... just NO WAY exists to satisfy ALL sides....]

I would very much prefer the Catholic church change it's stance on pedophile priests from protection to prosecution. We can talk about the gay part later. Actually if you are a gay person and belong to any mainstream church you're just a masochist. Start your own church, it's not hard and you don't need to exclude hetero's from it. Actually if you want to exercise your spirituality you don't need a "church" at all, and will probably be better off and closer to God if you didn't.

The Catholic Church has found itself torn between conservatives and liberals for a long time, B. The Second Vatican Counsel was largely a triumph of liberalism, and the push back over the past 50 years has been ferocious. The position of the Church on gay marriage is not anything like as front burner an issue as is it's official position on birth control - not that anyone at the parish level in the first world pretends to think that there's anything wrong with it. I remember confessing that I was on the Pill when I was 17; the priest on the other side of the screen sighed dramatically and gave me ONE Hail Mary. I got the distinct impression I shouldn't bother to mention it again, so I didn't. Contrast that one HM to the 20 Stations of the Cross I got for lying to my mother. In the third world, where the growth is coming from, that fake ban on birth control has huge implications. I expect that ban to be overturned long before the ban on gay marriage. Frankly, it's far more important, because it effects every single Catholic. I even think it's likely that we'll live to see it repealed. Eventually, I expect most of the bans in the Judeo/Christian/Islamic tradition derived from Bronze Age strictures in the Old Testament to go away. It made sense in an empty world where the majority of humans didn't make it to their 5th birthday to disapprove of anything that could decrease the number of babies being born, just as it made sense in a prerefrigeration Middle East to ban shellfish. Today, these strictures are absurd, as are those who demand a fundamentalist, literal reading of the OT. Just keep in mind that you'll find far fewer of them in the Vatican than you will at, say, the Southern Baptist Conclave.

Look at what's happening to the large, mainline Protestant denominations that have tried being officially gay friendly, openly ordaining gay pastors and allowing the blessing of same sex marriage, depending on local decisions - the Anglicans and the Lutherans. Both churches have plummeting numbers and are involved in intense schismatic debates. Many Anglican parishes, particularly in the global south, have left the Anglican Communion and have joined the Catholic Church. Both of these churches made these moves in response to pressure from North American activism, and it hasn't done them any good; it has, in fact, hurt them, and they stand as cautionary examples to the leadership of other denominations. You are looking at the Catholic Church strictly through American eyes, but you can't see it accurately through that prism. You're in the same position as Americans who can't understand why "American" companies have engaged, for decades, in actions that have impoverished their customer base at home.

To you morally superior idiots who know nothing about the Catholic church keep showing your ignorance. You all sound like spoiled babies. The Catholic church does not base its doctrine on the desires of those who don't agree with the church. If you want gay marriage then join a different church. Don't expect the church to change to fit your depraved logic. I suggest the Scientologist movement. You all seem like you would fit in there quite nicely.

Cathleen K - there is an expression about "separating the men from the boys." Vatican 2 didn't do that, but it certainly separated those who worship the real Jesus from those who worship Republican supply-side Jesus. Pope Francis is doing his best to do the same. It will be interesting to see what transpires. At my age, I don't expect to see the end of it.

Petition previously signed.

Well said, Joanne. Any thoughts as to when they'll get rid of the stricture on priests marrying? They've been very welcoming of married priests from other denominations lately, and they certainly could solve a lot of problems by getting rid of a rule that has no doctrinal basis anyway. Of course, then they get back the financial problems that made them invent it in the first place.

You're absolutely right, Allan, this petition has HUGE implications.
I don't see how the Pope is going to avoid taking a stand. And whatever stand he takes, he's going to grievously offend SOMEbody.

Since this is all taking place in and near Seattle, Washington [where I happen to live!], the Seattle Gay News is a really good source if you want to follow what is taking place.
That is

Part of a long article by Shaun Knittel, SGN Associate Editor:
"It will take a village to change things for all people in every state when it comes to same-sex marriage.
But we, as community and a culture, have great endurance and these youth are championing our cause. It is worth every second to mentor them and help get this thing going in every state.

LONG TERM For young activist Bradley Strode, this is a fight he is willing to see through to the end. 'As a community, we have united to stand in solidarity with Mark Zmuda [the fired Gay teacher] and Eastside Catholic students.' he told SGN. 'His termination stemming from his marriage to a man was ordered by the Archdiocese of Seattle because of the Church's official doctrine opposing Gay marriage. This is a great injustice. Mr. Zmuda was fired based off of action he took to consecrate his love for another man in the eyes of God. It in no way affected his ability to support and lead students at Eastside Catholic.'

'The Catholic and non-Catholic youth of the Greater Seattle community are trying to effect change in the Church's policy towards Gay marriage,' he continued. 'As a confirmed Catholic, I firmly believe that if Jesus Christ was here in human form, he would have sat-in with all of us in protest of this ruling. The Catholic Church's ultimate mission is to spread the unconditional love that Christ acted with and preached on throughout the Gospels. This means loving each human on earth regardless of sexual orientation, gender, or race. In order for the Catholic Church to fulfill this mission, it must support Gay marriage.'

'Now is the time to make a difference,' said Strode. 'Our message has already been projected throughout the country and the world, and it will only amplify from here.'
Strode refers to Pope Francis, who said, 'If a person is Gay and seeks the Lord and is of good will, who am I to judge him,' by saying, 'It is apparent that now the Catholic Church is ready for change. We will continue to stand in solidarity with Mr. Zmuda and the rest of our family to collaborate with the Archdiocese of Seattle, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and, ultimately, the Vatican to change this rule.'

'In the next couple of weeks, we will further develop this plan for reform,' he concluded. 'Be patient. Be vocal. Be positive. Take your energy and work in actions of love. I know we will do this.' [Bradley Strode is the Student Body President at Eastside Catholic High School]
Zeena Rivera and 'Be! Magazine' are leading an action that anyone could do, or should do, for the cost of a stamp: Write the Pope a letter. Starting today and continuing through the end of this month, hand write a letter to Pope Francis, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and Archbishop Sartain and make a difference.
'You don't have to argue for a sudden change in Church doctrine towards same-sex marriage, but please do emphasize that the Archdiocese's action went against the teachings of the Church on love for homosexuals and was blatantly hypocritical,' Rivera told SGN. 'So, write a letter (or 3), buy some stamps, and let the leadership of the Church know that their actions are not merciful, are not just, and are not the love of God.'

You can mail your letter(s) to:

His Holiness, Pope Francis
Apostolic Palace
00120 Vatican City

United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
3211 Fourth Street NE
Washington, DC 20017

Archbishop Peter Sartain
710 9th Avenue
Seattle, WA 98104

Note: In writing to the Pope, ALL International Postage is $1.10.
[Here is the address of the Pope IN ITALIAN - classy!]
Pope Francis [do not write, as I almost did, "Francis I", since there is no Francis II yet!]
Palazzo Apostolico
Vaticano 00120
Citta' Vaticano [do not write "Rome" or "Italy" - Vatican City is ITS OWN COUNTRY!]
I sent the Pope a postcard showing 9 beautiful Washington State lighthouses, and the message:
"Let the Light of Washington State High School Students shine as a Beacon of Hope to the World - Change the Church! policy on Gays and Lesbians. Sincerely, .... "

Again, stamps have to amount to $1.10, ALL International mail to Vatican City, whether postcard or letter.
[I am sure you can write these letters all thru January and beyond, if you feel like doing this...]

SECOND Eastside Catholic High School Gay Teacher Defiantly Announces Engagement!

For Stephanie Merrow, it was a compulsion inspired by her brave students and the ongoing controversy at one of her employers, Eastside Catholic High School.
Monday afternoon, she called KIRO-FM as they discussed the recent departure of Vice Principal Mark Zmuda, who lost his job when his marriage to another man came to light, violating Catholic teachings.
In the call to the radio show, Merrow defiantly said she planned to go to school Tuesday wearing her engagement ring, the one she got from her girlfriend.

"Either I'll be fired or the students will say, 'right on,'" said Merrow in her North Bend home Monday night.
"It doesn't matter if I get fired, I want (students) to know that I think what they did was incredible and if anything changes, it's going to be because of this next generation," she continued.

Zmuda's departure spurned protests by students before winter break. Classes resumed Monday with little reported incidents. The population was told by administrators if they protested, they would be sent home.
Zmuda claims he was fired while school administrators insist he resigned. So far, he has not spoken publicly about his departure other than an interview conducted by a student several weeks ago.
Merrow, who does not know Zmuda, called his situation "hypocritical".
"They're not firing people who are straight that are doing things that aren't Catholic," she said, "They're just firing Mark."
Also Monday, the chair of Eastside Catholic High’s School board resigned. School president Sister Mary Tracy said Gene Colin stepped down suddenly Monday afternoon, citing a need to take a break.
Sister Tracy says the decision is not connected to the recent departure of former vice principal Mark Zmuda, who lost his job after it became known he married a man.
Tracy said Colin was a “strong board chairman” who was very involved in Zmuda’s dismissal.
Former board Vice President and Interim Vice Principal Tom Lord said prior to Colin's departure that he had been under pressure for weeks, but declined to elaborate on what the pressure was regarding.
I give this SIX MONTHS, and the POPE CAVES IN.....
Remember, you heard it here first!
[He'll think up some weaselly "reason" - just like the Mormon Elders had a "revelation" that Black people weren't eternally cursed by God with black skin-color and meant eternally to be slaves for the "sins" of their remote ancestors...]
