As you wait for next year's car models to hit the dealerships so you can experience the latest in automotive technology, research and development teams are working right now in labs inventing things that will be commonplace in all cars 20 to 30 years down

I've already given up cars in favour of driving a bicycle; I distrust air bags, prefer carburetters to electronic engine controls, and consider the pneumatic tyre one of the best things that ever happened to road transportation. I don't plan on going back until motor fuel returns to well under a buck a gallon equivalent and government retreats back to the 1950s or less vice intrudes like Big Brother into our daily lives.

I'd love to see that self-healing paint, but I wonder if we have enough spare crustaceans to avoid an environmental hallocaust. The tweel has been on the drawing boards for some time, waiting for costs to make it feasible and public attitudes to make it acceptable. The electromanetic suspension sound an awful lot like something GM has had on some of its cars for about 10 years and off-road racers developed before that.

The car invention I want is one that reduces global warming instead of increasing it.

All of these sound great; now if we could just get them into cars a tad sooner than later.
