That's because they don't have to waste precious time on feeling ugly so they haave more time to study!

This is just plain stupid.

Cheney is a whole lot uglier than than his dimwitted sidekick Dopey W.

And Tina Fay is infinitely brighter than look-alike You-Know_who.

I think we just need to stop judging "books by their covers". Of course good-looking people can be intelligent (it's just plain old envy that thinks looks and brains together is unfair!). More ordinary looking people can also be intelligent, or not as the case may be. Point is, intelligence has nothing much to do with one's external appearance and the world will be a better place when we stop making snap judgments based on superficialities.

Thanks for posting the article. I meant to add to my previous comment that I think the apparently higher IQ scores among the good-looking are probably due to factors other than their looks.

Ohhhh, I forgot about Deepak Chopra and all Care2 staff.... ;-)) They are beautiful, intelligent and wise, and I'm sure they have very high IQ... It's visible, isn't it?... ;-)

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and intelligence can be used to both good and bad...

I would not get too hung up on these findings. One of the reasons attractive peoples IQ may be a bit higher is the amount of attention paid to them from a young age. A child who is cute is more likely to be picked up, read to, and indulged in activities denied to a less attractive child. So perhaps this says more about our response to someones looks than anything else. And it says that we need not to worry about someones looks but how we relate to them.

Yes, I believe it. Most of dumb folks look ugly, I agree, that has nothing to do with fashion. It's like people
who eat lot's of porc do have a pig's apperance - look at their faces and you know....

Being nice looking adds to self confidence not brains.

I find this hard to believe. The most intelligent people that I have ever met, were not the most attractive looking. By whose criteria was this study based on?

good looks, smarts too...does being nice person fit in there somewhere? a person could be good looking and crafty (by that I mean sly, not artistic), and be a total stinker. Judgeing from the mug shots of criminals ugly, stupid and mean go hand in hand.

While I don't for a moment think there is a correlation, my favourite example fo beauty and brains is Professor Lisa Randall of MIT.

What is in your heart and soul makes you a smart person. Common sense/street smarts vs book smart makes a better person.

Sorry just do not believe it. It is the inner beauty that counts, not outter!

Apolonia Pl (392)

Of course INNER BEAUTY counts, but it's always visible outside that person and makes her attractive.

I think this is because people who are more beautiful have higher self-esteem (how sad, that self-esteem is often based on outer appearances), and self-esteem improves everything in your life. Thanks Anna

Articles/research like this perpetuate the horrible smug and self-righteous attitudes of current thinking and deepens the chasm for those people who don't measure up to the current Status Quo of perfection and achievement. The class system has never been more firmly cemented in place then now! It really is so shallow, irresponsible and unnecessary.

Besides, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

And is the zombie pictured at the head of this thread supposed to be beautiful? Eeeew.

of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and subjective, while intelligence can be objectively measured....I personally don't think the model in the picture at the top of this article and the women pictured in the news article are all that beautiful looking, but its my opinion...

This is complete rubbish. Most of the geniuses we have know have been complete geeks. We think the so called better looking people get the breaks in society. that is all.

They aren't "more clever," they are simply more adept at using their appearance to achieve their goals and get their way. No "science" about it.

I'm not so sure that I'm buying this. I've met plenty of "good-looking" people who spend so much time primping in the mirror that they don't use their time for anything else except for trying to get noticed as often as possible. If this is clever, it's not the same as having a higher IQ... It's already a fact that good looking people are treated better than "ugly" people. So, those with average looks end up working on their personalities instead.

Plus, what happened to "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"? What is good looking to you isn't to me, and it's a cultural thing also. Celebrity status or "being rich" doesn't qualify as being good looking... I've seen plenty of "rich & famous people".
