Rights and wrongs in the Israel-Palestine conflict are debated in this heated exchange between Norman Finkelstein, a fierce and articulate Jewish critic of Israel and its policies, and Ranann Gissin, an ardent defender of the Zionist state. . .

Hopefully, the new talks that are due to start will do something toward peace.

Was Gissin saying that Israel is a zoo for endangered species? Coming from somebody else that would be considered an anti-Semitic statement, wouldn't you say?

"Was Gissin saying that Israel is a zoo for endangered species?"

He also said Israel wasn't a 'normal' State. . .

I hope they can agree to do more to promote peace - but it's too much like Congre$$ here in the States, too many are more interested in their re-elections than achieving anything for the Universal Good of the people!

Only fascists can defend the fascist Israeli colonial state!

It's odd how Finklestein always seems so utterly robotic in videotaped interviews, at least the many I've seen him take part in. As though he is merely reading from a script. Not much new here, I'm afraid. But such interviews are always worth a look.

Arguments ad hominem (attacking the debating opponent themselves, instead of their ideas) are a fallacy of logic, and prove NOTHING. Such tactics prove that the person who uses them does not have ideas that match those of their opponent in debate. It shows that the other sides' ideas are more credible.

Free Palestine from colonial Israeli siege, occupation and oppression!!!

Ah, Simon. There you are. I'm still waiting for that apology. Not that I genuinely expect to receive it, of course! :-)

I was ready to say that robotic and telling the truth is a lot better than animated and telling lies, but then it occurred to me that the real robot is the one who's programmed to carry the Bible in one hand and a gun in the other to displace people from their own homes!

I'm not quite sure I follow you, Sam. "....carry the Bible in one hand and a gun in the other to displace people from their own homes"? Or perhaps you mean the Torah (since some of the books contained in the Christian Bible, of course, are shared by the Jewish holy book)? I couldn't quite understand the mention of the Bible in that context.

You have to argue with Gissin, Lindsey. He's the one who used the word "Bible."

Yes - "A rifle in one hand and a Bible in the other. . ."

Oh. Well, if it's a quote, it would be helpful if you would put quotation marks around quotes, Sam, so that people don't mistakenly take the sentence for your own thoughts. Even a paraphrase deserves attribution, of course. But I can't quite understand why you are including the statement in your comment if you don't understand its meaning.

Oh, well. No matter. I was just curious and my curiosity will obviously remain unsatisfied!

Lindsey, if you didn't recognize, on your own, that Gissin used the word "Bible," it means you either didn't listen to or comprehend what was said in the interview. That was really quite obvious from the shallowness of your comments, but I gave you the benefit of the doubt.

I see that crash-course in English Grammar has served you well - well done, you're coming along in leaps and bounds!

I said it's OK, Sam. If you don't understand what you wrote in your comment, doesn't bother me. I just rather assumed that since you included those words you might have some idea as to why the word "Bible" was being used to refer to this situation. But, as I said, my curiosity will just have to go unsatisfied. No problem.

Oh, sorry, Dave. I didn't mean to overlook you. Thanks for the kind words.

Sam - you're going to hurt that head of yours bashing it into that brick wall.

Nah, Dave. Brick crumbles far too easily.

Your curiosity is based on your bias, Lindsey. Even after it was brought to your attention that it was Gissin who used the word "Bible," you're still arguing with me about it. If its use bothers you that much, why don't show your dissatisfaction with what Gissin said? It's amazing that even when you disagree with what Gissin, you still criticize Finkelstein and me instead!

It's really no big deal if you don't understand what you wrote, Sam. As I said, don't worry about it. There is much in life that remains a mystery.

I'm quite satisfied with where the discussion stands now. The average Care2 reader is enlightened enough to recognize the truth in what Finkelstein said, and NOT be distracted by all you attempts to derail the discussion.

Cross Talk, I am disappointing with the way you llet Gissin continually go off subject and monopolize the discussion. No, I am sorry I misspoke it was not a discussion considering how much time you allowed to Gissen.

I just watched the video a second time. Gissen took even more time than I thought.
