Is going Vegan better for the environment? Studies seem to show a vegan who eats organic food is better, but do avoid avocados, palm oil, almonds, and other. In other words, always check if the food causes deforestation... see the comment section.

Not all plant foods are "good for the environment"
Palm oil & avocado production cause massive amounts of deforestation and are grown often monocultures.
Almonds require an excessive amount of water (although this is up for debate)
Lettuce uses 3X as many resources as pork production (although this is up for debate)
In other words, research the foods you are eating, and ask yourself is this helping or harming our environment?

Here are some foods that use a low amount of water & resources to produce:
Potatoes, Tea, Tomatoes, Beer, Apples, Oranges, Soya Beans.

I must admit, trying to find out this information is surprisingly hard!

For the sake of full disclosure, I am not yet a Vegan and don't buy much organic food. But before you cry that's do as I say not as I do, I'm just presenting the facts as I find them. I'm not a fan of organic food and I do think organic food organisations should accept GMO crops.

At the moment, I have Vegan days which I think is a fair compromise, I also think even if I did become Vegan, I would allow a small amount of animal product in the foods I consume & products I use, because many "pure" Vegan products are ridiculously expensive!

However, those are just my opinions.

Well done John!!

i'm almost vegan & have been for most of my life but every now & then i might have some light cheese or yogurt.
i refuse to buy organic, unless i actually see it being grown or i grow it myself, i have witnessed way too much greed in humanity!

Shared!

I am suspicious of organic for similar reasons, Animae. Here in the UK food that isn't organic is passed off as organic food. Also, I don't earn enough to afford to buy the stuff.

Spot on John, i forgot to mention the insane astronomical prices, like i said if i don't see it growing i don't buy it!

i have grown my own veggies but i live in an area near the foothills with many trees, it's beautiful here, we have an abundance of wildlife which is also beautiful, especially Possums, who are so clever, they wait until my Broccoli is ready to pick & they leave me the stalks!!
i also don't get anything off my Peach tree, Plum tree & Grape vine, they eat all those while they're green & they eat the Lemon tree leaves!!
i have given up growing for now!

Very much prefer & adore our dear Koala's who only require a fresh bowl of water & Eucalyptus leaves!! 🐨

LOL not my Possums John!

i already have a motion activated spot light, they just growl at it!
My dog & cat are always in my back yard, their fur & smell is everywhere, again they sit in the trees & growl at them!
They don't come down on the ground at all, except when i was growing veggies, they jump from tree to roof & back to tree, they make a heck of a noise & often wake me at night.

i would never use a chemical or even natural repellent & i would NEVER trap them, they are territorial, so if they are released into another area the Possums of that area will kill the newcomer!

One of my crazy neighbors used a stun gun i could hear him using at night, i approached him & asked him what that clicking noise was i heard nightly, his excuse was an electrical fault in a wire, LOL, i never heard the gun again because if i did i would've called the police & i'm pretty sure he knew that!!

i have learnt to live with them John, after all they were here before us!!
But thanx anyway.

i get sticky keys too, i need a new keyboard!
