What is Network Messaging?
Network messaging is a messaging system that allows you to communicate with other members without revealing your email address to them and without leaving yourself vulnerable to receiving spam. Because only your trusted friends and the friends of your friends can send you messages over the Care2 network, you only get messages from those you know and trust.

What steps do you take to ensure that my privacy is protected?
You control who sees what when you complete your account information. The visibility settings are available for your sensitive information, and you'll determine who gets to see your information. You can only be added to networks (and you can only add people to your networks) when you've agreed to accept a request to be added as a friend. If you like, you can
review Care2's privacy policy.

1. Login to your Care2 account
2. Click on My Account in the upper right corner of any page
3. Click on Edit Basics
4. Next to the field 'Care2 Member', select No - Hide My Profile.

How do I change or edit my profile?
It's easy -- just click the "my account" link to the right of the blue tabs. Your profile is grouped into several categories:
- Basics: The basic information you'll need to complete to start
- Contact Info: If you'd like your friends or other members to be able to contact you outside of the network, you can provide your contact information here.
- Personal: Although this information is optional, filling it out will help you harness the power of Care2 by building a fully dimensional picture of you and your lifestyle, and will increase the chances you'll connect with someone who shares your interests. And, it's fun!
- Professional: You can use Care2 to make professional connections and find your dream job.
- Singles: If you're looking to connect with other singles, this is where you'll make your account searchable by other singles and enter information about yourself that will help connect you with your perfect match.
- Photos: Upload your photo here. People are far more likely to view your profile if you have a photo!
- Notifications: Here is where you will indicate who you want to receive network messages from (friends, friends of friends, or anyone). You can also opt in or out of Care2 notifications here, and view and add reminders for birthdays and holidays.

How do I change my profile photo?
To Change your photo for your Care2 profile, simply follow these steps:
1. Login to your account, and click on My Page in the My Care2 drop-down menu at the top of your screen.
2. Then click on 'Add Photos' next to your current profile image.
3. Then you have two options:
- Choose an image from your album. Please note: The system may choose different photos from your public albums randomly. So if you only want a particular image, we recommend using the option below.
- Upload a photo directly from your hard drive. This is the easiest most reliable way to add an image to your page.
4. Follow the instructions for the option chosen above.
5. Once you have uploaded your new photo, click on your browser's refresh button to update your photo in your profile.
** Please note: You may continue to see your old profile photo when visiting discussions, Care2 News Network, and other profiles. The reason is that our system is designed to save images in a cache for easier future viewing. We chose this default to accomodate those with slower internet connections. To view the new image hit the refresh or reload button. You may also want to adjust your browser settings to always look for newer versions of the page.
Technical Difficulties
How did someone else's photo end up on my profile?!
Some user's have have experienced trouble with the display of your photo when enlarged. This is a weird quirky qlitch in the system when photos are selected as profile photos from your albums. We aren't sure why this sometimes happens but all it usually takes to fix is to reupload your photo.
Try reloading your image here.
I changed my profile picture but I keep seeing my old photo in discussion threads!
Our system is designed to store the old photo in its memory to make it easier to display when you are on the website. We chose this default to aid our users with slower internet connections.
If you hit the refresh/reload button on your browser, or the F5 (or Crtl-F5) key on your keyboard, your browser will load the new image. If you'd prefer to have your browser always check for newer page versions, try adjusting your browser settings.
Why can't I delete my profile photo?
Why? Not sure. However, it's easy to make your current one disappear. All you have to do is upload an image to replace the current one. The image does not have to be a photo of yourself so use your imagination! :)
How do I contact a friend of a friend?
Click the "Introduce Yourself" link next to the member's profile. You can then send a message to the person introducing yourself, and they will then have the option to send a reply message to your account.

I do not want my full name displayed on my profile.
You can change the display options for your names on the Edit Basics page:
http://www.care2.com/c2c/my/edit_basics.html
You can choose to show your entire last name, or just the first letter of your last name. However, if you do the latter, your friends and old acquaintances will not be able to find you by searching for your last name.
If you choose to show just the first letter of your last name, you must have your first name be more than one letter.

What's the difference between network messaging and email?
Network messaging is an enclosed spam-free messaging environment within Care2 that protects your privacy. You have complete control over who can send you network messages: 1) only your friends, 2) only friends and friends of friends, or 3) any Care2 member. If you limit your messages to friends only, you are assured that only those people you have personally approved can send you messages. Only Care2 members have access to network messaging.
If you find that a friend is sending to many messages but you want to keep the friend connection, you may opt to block messages from that person.
For your convenience, you can elect to receive your network messages through your Care2 email account. (Once you're in the "my account" section, click the orange Notifications tab to edit your preferences.)
How do I delete photos?
Managing your photos is easy! To delete photos or albums, simply click on the items you wish to delete and then select delete from the menu on the bottom left hand side.
To remove your profile photo, simply
upload a new image. The image does not have to be a picture of yourself, it can be any image that isn't animated.

About IM
Care2's Instant Messenger allows members to communicate with other Care2 members instantly! There's nothing to download, Care2 IM is built into your regular account. When you see a small green orb icon next to someone's name it means they're online. When you click on the icon a message window will open and you can initiate a conversation. Once you've chatted, that person will become your IM buddy and will be added to your buddy list.
Adjusting your Preferences
You may choose from the following communication options:
- Allow only your friends to IM you
- Allow anyone on Care2 to IM you
- Turn it off – allow nobody to initiate IM with you (or see that you’re online)
Turning it Off
There are 2 ways to turn off Care2 Instant Messenger. Both options essentially do the same thing but can be reached from different locations.
Enable or Disable IM from the IM tool
When you click on the IM icon and open up your IM window, you'll see two radio buttons near the top. Toggle between these two settings to turn your IM on and off.
Enable or Disable IM from 'MyAccount' controls
The controls for this feature are located on the
Edit Notifications page within your 'MyAccount' control panel. You may also get there from the IM converstation window by clicking on the wrench icon.
In addition to turning your IM on or off you may also change your preference on who may contact you via IM.
If you wish to keep your IM turned on but want to change your online status. See below...
Change your online status
If you are in the middle of an IM conversation with someone but need to step away from your computer...you may change your status to away. To do this, go to the open conversation window and look for the green light with a sliding control. Slide the bar to the left and the light will turn red. You should also see a message in the window that says, "You have been switched to away". When you come back slide the bar back to the right.
